a tie bar is not a performance part. It helps to brace the chassis if you upgrade your sway bar. In the older civics, if you put a large sway bar on the rear the chassis could break so in order to prevent that they made tie bars.

well they make thicker bars than 19mm. The 19mm probably won't crack your chassis, but anything 20mm and above might. That is why the progress 22mm sway bar comes with an integrated tie bar.

A quick search in this Suspension Forum reveals a DIY by Grey (who else?) on mounting a front sway bar. Click here for linkage.
And to answer the size question, read the following quote from the DIY:
"The Progress sway bar is 27mm in diameter and weighs 15 pounds while the stock sway bar is 25.4mm in diameter and weighs 7 pounds."

yes Bellz is right about the stock front sway bar, but you usually don't need a front tie bar if you upgrade your front sway bar.

Actually its the opposite, larger rear bar will reduce understeer/increace oversteer.

this probably means that the stock bar is hollow while the Progress bar is solid.
this also means that the Progress bar is MUCH stiffer then stock. (when calculating strength of a anti-roll bar, If that bar is hollow, you must subtract the hollow portion out of the equation, thus makeing a hollow bar Vs a solid bar of the same diamiter weaker) there are other vairiables, such as lenght of the bars conecting arm (longer = weaker) ect...
the lower rear tie is all show
I have the 19mm RSX bar and I also got the DC Sports Lower Rear Tie in polished.
The peoople driving behind love the look especially next to the Apexi WS exhaust.
I'd get that piece combined with the 19mm RSX for a nice neutral ride

So now I'm curious, is this Civic brochure from Honda's website wrong? It says the stock swaybars are 15.9 for the front and 12mm for the rear.. ???
