Are the stock struts for the 2001+ EX that bad?
Ok, i've had my car lowered 2" for about 2 months now with some Arospeed lowering springs. When i installed them (wich was easy as pie
i had a bad strut to begin with but could barely tell with my stock springs, so i was low on cash and just found a junked Civic and replaced it with another stock strut. Now after my car being dropped for 2 months, My other front strut is starting to go, that seems extremely fast to me. I know your stock struts are gonna wear out faster with your car dropped but it just seems way to quick! Sooo...with all you peeps out there with your cars lowered are you wearing out your struts just as fast as me? or maybe am i being to hard on them when cornering? I have plans to replace the struts with something more durable but i figured the struts would last me long enough to save casually for some better ones. also, anyone got any good opinions on what to replace the stock ones with? just wanna here some opinions...Thanks

If you lower the car 2 inches, you're taking 2 inches of travel out of the struts... so they're going to bottom out if you hit a hard bump... thats why you shouldn't really lower a car on the factory struts... you will kill them very fast. You're only option is Koni Yellows... and they're just inserts. The other option is full coilovers, but if you're strapped for cash, that may not be feasible.
Im rolling on stockies with Goldlines for about 10k miles now. I used to drive like a dumass and go over 120mph all the time. Hit huge *** dips and go canyon running every month. My stock shocks and struts havent even blown yet. I was planning on buying nice shocks and struts if they every blew.but ****.... it seems to me that their never gonna wear. Peace.
A lot of people with 2001 Civics IMO had crappy struts. Compared to the 2k2s, the 2k2s were better if say you lowered your car on soft adjustable coilovers like Ground Controls. I was able to ride in both 2k1 and 2k2 Civics lowered on GCs with the 2k1 being slightly lower but not too much. It bounced wayyyy too much compared to the 2k2 which was more in motion with the road, but you could still tell that the stock struts were bouncy too but just not as bad. My friend owned the 2k1 and he said that my 2k2's ride was cool and better than his.
I've had my car lowered for about a year on stock struts and they both just started to leak.
P.S. If you bottom out a strut, the car isn't using the strut.

If you replace your struts with 2k2s, make sure you find them on a car with low mileage... no more than 20k if they've been on stock springs. Even better, you could take some off of a 2k2 Si which are a lil' stiffer and should last longer but any 2k2 struts should do. Keep in mind that it also depends on how the previous car was driven which can tell how long the struts will last but coming from a junkyard you'll most likely never know.
