does $70 sound about right??

i went to this shop by my house and asked how much it would cost to install the nuespeed x brace on my car and he said at first, it would take minimium 1 hr and maximium 2 hrs on the lift(he wasnt really understanding what the x brace is, so i explained), and its $70 an hour. i was like wtf, how much is it to install the front strut bar as well, he said same price, depends on how many hours, i was like it takes 15 min-20 min max to install both, he said minimum is $70, which is the minimum(1 hr on the lift).
he didnt understand the procedure to install it, so i printed out the installation from the neuspeed site and im going to bring it in to talk to the owner and explain how easy it is and if he can charge me for half an hour, if not, ill try somewhere else. for those who installed the strut bar and x brace professionally, how much did it cost? the strut bar, i can do diy, just need a torque wrench, but i dont want to attempt the x brace without jack stands or a lift by myself, thanks

you definately don't need to pay 70 bucks to have this work done, especially if YOU have to explain to this guy how to do his job... post on the mid-atlantic forum and see if anyone in your area would be willing to help you with the install. with no experience you could easily do the strut bar install, but i havent done an X-brace so I don't know what's involved in that install.

he didn't say front strut bar, he said front X brace. That goes under the car! And it is an easy job, jack up or roll it on ramps, pull out some bolts and put the thing on. DIY man.

if you go to any garage. they will charge you thier hourly rate minimum 1 hour They don't car if its changing your air filter...1 hour Do it Yourself. drive to a buddies or relatives house and borrow stands, jack ect. Then everytime you pop your hood you can say
" I installed that myself" and feel proud

And again, I will repeat, he said X brace not strut bar. The X brace is under the car, not under the hood!!!

If he is gonna charge you 70 bones for one hour minimum on the lift.
I would make him keep your car on the lift for one hour so no other cars could be worked on ...just incase he finished yours early.

I hat e it when shops try to screw you.

$90? You weren't looking at jackstands, man. Jackstands are just basic little things that will run you $20 at Wal-mart. And you can return them if you want after you finish your DIY! Doesn't get much cheaper than that...
