hahah you must've torchered it when you took it off....did you leave the nut at the end and knock the rod upwards when you got it off? anyways depending on how badly the rod is stripped.....you can improvise and make it fit nicely.

ive run into that problem whenever i drop other 7thgens... basically its stripped.. but i got a rethreading kit so it saves time, and money... hehehhehe but if u take off the tie rods, you gotta get an alignment done with ur car.... thats why its soo much

The worst case scenario is you'll have to replace the tie rod. You can try filing it to look like threads again. Tap and die set will also work.

Remember that the nut that goes on teh tie rod is bigger than the size of the actual thread it's going on. So it might be anywhere from 10-12mm die set to straighten the tie rod.

I've read of peeps using a piece of wood like a 2x4 and wedge it in the tie rod to put pressure on the tie rod end so it wouldnt spin. Not sure if I would use an air wrench to re-tap the threads. Sounds like risky.

If your referring to re-threading the tie rod end, then yes. Anytime you re-thread you should do it slowly and carefully by hand.

You don't want to tear that boot. You'll need to grease and replace that if its torn

That rubber boot acts as a dirt protector and keeps it from drying out and getting damaged. I would consider getting another boot installed while your at it.

I kinda came in late on this thread.. but here's what I suggest. I would at this point just go buy a new tie rod end(probably comes with a boot) and install that instead. Unless you think the one that you re-threaded is still thick enough that it wont compromise your safety. Rarely do you ever see a suspension component such as a ball joint or bushing fixed. Most shops just replace them instead for safety purposes. That tie rod end is critical to your driving safety. If it breaks your going to loose your ability to drive safely... especially at highway speeds.

I say get it fixed right with the proper parts man.. dont risk it.

YOu can get a new tierod end from the dealer for about $42. The boot is already installed. You can buy the boots seperately but you'll never get them on, trust me. They have been pressed into the part and are not meant to be replaced by themselves.

If the end spins while you are trying to put the nut on, stick the end through the hole and then hammer the top of it. This will hopefully wedge it down in there enough that you can get the bolt on. Also, spray the threads with some wd-40 too.

I would just go buy a new tierod end. You are going to need one eventually since you tore the boot. It's 42 bucks and everything will be back to normal. I can tell you how to install them as well.

Also, you need an alignment regardless of whether you replace the the ends or not.
