KONIS

Just ordered konis, is it hard to do the front installs? Cutting the olds ones and everything, is there another diy besides the one, if not is that a good one to follow. i am goign to do this with my mechanic, he is not into all this, just and ordinary mechanic, think it is possible for him to do it?

Yeah man. Don't be intimidated by the cutting. Just be precise and make sure you follow the measurements. I paid about $550 to install my konis and my springs and I wish I hadn't because looking more closely now I realize I could have done that job EASILY. You just need the proper tools. Those tools aren't hard to get either, nor are they expensive.

It's not that hard as long as you take your time. My instructions did'nt have any words, just pictures. That's the only part that really sucks.

It's not that hard to do. Just measure and cut. I found that using a tubing cutter is better than using a hacksaw as it give a nice smooth square cut. The mechanic sure ought to know how to use a spring compressor and do the install, that's pretty standard.

What size of drill bits are required to drill the hole on the bottom of the strut housing?

I used 37/64 " bit. I believe the instructions call for 14mm. It's a thru hole for the attaching bolt with washer, so it can be a little oversize. You need a good solid clamp to hold the strut and a drill press as it's a little tough to drill. It also helps to have a good quality bit.

Also one needs to make sure to drill a small hole before cutting the top of the shock, because the oil inside is under nitrogen pressure. You want to bleed off that pressure before you cut or it makes oil spray mess.

I would also recommend that before putting the inserts in the struts, to put some paint on the cut edges and edges of the drilled holes so they won't get rusty later on.

That's odd. Why do they seem to be getting MORE expensive instead of LESS? People must be buying them like hot cakes or something.

Demand(up)
Supply(down)
Price(up)

: )

I paid $515 plus $25 shipping for mine from Import Horizon in late Februrary, 2002. That's $540 shipped for coupe.

Import Horizon price as of their website today is $531 plus shipping, which would now be $556 shipped or $1 more than Tornactive.

Pricess apear to have gone up all over.

I think on at least the 01 models, the sedan and coupes have different rear spring heights.
