The price of lowering my car...?

Well, at first I wasn't considering lowering my car, but after CapYoda said:

lowering a car wont cost that much really, springs runs for around 150 shipped. Nuespeed/Goldline

but you may have to deal with installation cost and the cost of the strut/shocks when/if they blow.
,

I started thinking hmmm, maybe it's not that much. So if the springs are $150 shipped, I assume I would also have to replace the stock struts and shocks with aftermarket ones because I don't want to take the chance of them blowing. Approximately how much would that cost? And then installation and stuff.

Also, would it look stupid to have a lowered car with stock wheels? I really can't afford rims at all. (Besides, aren't most rims that people "upgrade" to heavier than the stock wheels anyway?)

Thanks for the help,

IronFist

my first suggestion would be to read the suspension FAQ. i didn't have much money so i still had lx wheel covers when i dropped it... only spent 210... 140 for the neuspeed springs, 70 for installation. you could always try installing it yourself tho, it isnt too hard if you have access to the right tools. i didn't get aftermarket shocks cause the ride isnt that badd with stock shocks with my neuspeeds and it probably wont blow for another year or so(whether your shocks blow or not varies ALOT but ya i guess i'm just praying it lasts over a year). but ya i think cars look nice dropped even if it is stock wheels. and remember the lower you go the more you probably have to spend but the tighter it looks. the lower you go mean the more you need aftermarket shocks and a camber kit. when i was in stock wheels i didn't care about the camber being off but now that i spent what 600 on the tires for my 18s, i think i'm going to get a camber kit. aftermarket shocks i'm going to ride it out till my stock ones blow. but ya read the suspension faq and look through the suspension forum for more answers...
approximate prices..
springs: 100-200. i would suggest neuspeed or goldlines, around 130-150 shipped. eibachs are like 200 and are supposidely the best but imo they are overrated.
shocks: only ones out now are konis and those are about 550-600
camber kit: 120-200

Youch. Sounds like near $1000 for everything. That's about all I have to spend total. Maybe I won't be lowering my car.

Hmmm...

Thanks for the reply.

i am pretty sure you r stock struts and shock will last for a good while, usually they do, i know they can blow in a days time, but for the most part they last for a good bit.

ya i was too cheap to buy the konis so i didn't. and since your on stock wheels you wont really have to worry too much about a camber kit.
so all you really need is springs and installation if you dont diy. even if your shocks do blow i've heard of people riding on blown shocks for years...

I totaled it up. I got my goldlines with a full camber kit. Then had it installed and aligned. The total was 700 even. I had to pay 375 to get them put on and aligned. It sux, but im well pleased. I'll probably get konis whenever the stock shocks blow

700? kinda alot.. alignment is only like $70 the most. install is about 120 the most for springs(well besides a few places). installing a camber kit i heard was 100 but just diy. its only what 3 bolts for each on the rear and just one on the front.

yeah, it was the only shop in the whole county, that would put them on. I dont know why some shops around here didnt want to, but i guess when you're the only person in the area doing something like that you can charge anything you want

I have to add my 2 cents - I bought the Sportlines and have done a few other mods but sold the springs as the install/alignment cost was way out of line. Not sure why some shops chagre so little and others charge an armful. I was well prepared to spend the money on the springs and after people said they got them installed and aligned for less than $150 I was ready to go. Turns out all the shops in Nashville wanted $300 to do the work and that's a bit much. There are so many good mods other than springs that help a ton - Neuspeed strut bars, RSX rear sway, bushings, etc.

Also - yes about the heavy wheels - if you don't have a bunch of change to spend and get light wheels then don;t bother - we need to make as much power as we can and heavy wheel/tire combos are a huge power robber. Just my opinion.

300 for install? nashville isn't that small... i'm sure you could find it for atleast 120. i know rim/tire places will charge 300. you might want to try a tuner shop, most of them charge from 80-120. no alignment tho. or better yet you could always DIY. i dont think strut bars and such will help you just as much as lowering performance wise cause your car is still going to lean cause of the soft stock springs. i personally didn't get lowering springs for perfomance tho, it was mainly for looks. i just think a car looks nice slammed.

55 for shipping? damn it should only be like 15.

$150 for springs, DIY install or find a friend like I did (free) or $100 for install, $150 for rear camber kit......stock shocks.......last you at least a year so after that get some shocks, fronts will prob be the only ones needed first b/c if no1 sits in the back of ur car, then the rear suspension should be good.... fronts are what hit the bumps the most and hardest (IMO)... $100 or so for the alignment give or take a couple b/c of the camber install too...... and thats bout it...... I just bought my rims and they should be coming in tomorrow... Neuspeed Sport, stock shocks... good luck man...
