Update on squeaky newly-installed springs

As I've posted a while back, had rumbling/squeaking sound from my Sportline right after it was installed. When I had them out for installing Koni's today, surely the paint's scratched off big time on the bottom of the springs (as predicted by Eibach's engineer).

Anyway, especially on stock shocks, apparently, the springs will scrape the metal base. Solution was simple. Rubber tubbing. I'm not too sure what material, as the shop guy did it, but it was heavy duty (three times thicker than the rubber sleeve provided with the springs), and just 180 around the bottom end of the springs.

No more noise. Of course, 500% better ride with Koni's.

Yeah, the shop was quite nice and was gonna do the base for me without charge anyway, but I decided I'd like Koni's now too.

So they didn't charge my labour (for Koni's AND padding the base of the springs). 3 hours and 2 technicians.... I suppose I got my money's worth!

Very true... When my local shop put my Skunk 2 coil overs in I would have to put the grease on once a week on the top of the coil over because it was rubbing on the top of the strut. Both being metal it would squeek and very annoying but once they put a piece of rubber between them, I haven't had any problem since.

Decamo has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Can you put that vinyl fish tank tubing? I was thinking of doing that put my squeaks magically disappeared.

I'm not sure how much force it has to hold, but you want something that's not going go crack or break with time.

i think its mainly an installation issue. i'm not saying people with squeaky springs got them installed wrong but it isnt easy getting the springs to sit on the lower perch correctly... most of the time theres going to be some play...

I have sportlines and no problems...if you didn't trim the bump stops you'd get that rumbling sound for sure...
