Can't decide which setup I should go for

Hey guys. I have a 2002 Civic LX Sedan and I am looking to upgrade my struts and springs. My old struts are going out, and I figure now is the time to spend the money to get something great out of my suspension.

I want to lower my car a little maybe 1''-2'', but I also want my car to feel comfortable since I am going to have my girlfriend in the passenger seat a lot. So far my choices are:

Skunk 2 Pro-S II Coilovers Skunk 2 Pro-S II Coilovers

-OR-

Tokico

-OR-

If you have any better options for around the same price, please let me know.

In order of importance: Ride Quality, Performance, Durability, Lowerering

(Note: I don't know anything about suspension.)

Just realized I posted this in 6th gen instead of 7th. Woops.

Not a fan of Skunk2 suspension products.....they are known for having a good amount of quality issues, along with being pretty stiff.

If you want a decent spring/shock setup, I'd suggest Koni STR.Ts (or if you are willing to spend a bit more Koni Yellows), with either Eibach, H&R, Tein, or Neuspeed springs (basically whatever drop you want).

Or for around the same price you could get a set of Function&Form Type 1 or Tein Basic coilovers. The Teins will be super comfortable, and would be great if you plan on only dropping the car a bit. The F&Fs will be stiffer, since they are designed more for being able to lower the car a lot.

the Excel-G are stock replacements, they might not last long when running with stiffer springs. Rather go with Tokico HP - the blues.

not sure of the tokico springs, though very few have them. in the miata crowd they are far from the best, but them different cars, different settings.
what most like are the tokico HP blues with the eibach springs. they will last too.

Tokico HP's and springs or Tein Basis will be your best for comfort. I would go for the coilovers, so that you can set the height exactly how you want it. Progress are suppose to ride comfortably also.

What coilovers would you recommend if I went that route? Any for below 700?

Re: Can't decide which setup I should go for

These any good if I were to do them with some Sportlines?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KONI-STR-T-STREET-SHOCKS-STRUTS-SET-01-02-HONDA-CIVIC-SEDAN-COUPE-/320766475462?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CMake%3AHonda%7CModel%3ACivic%7CSubmodel%3ALX&hash=item4aaf2bfcc6&vxp=mtr
Or would I be better going with:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/One-Set-of-Tokico-HP-Gas-Shocks-Struts-for-Honda-01-02-Civic-Sedan-Coupe-BLUE-/320760929409?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CMake%3AHonda%7CModel%3ACivic%7CSubmodel%3ALX&hash=item4aaed75c81&vxp=mtr
and some sportlines?

I wouldn't recommend any that are under $700.

Either of those shocks would work well with the Sportlines.

woah! wait a moment. STRT's are not really made for lowering springs, they are good stock replacement ones.

and since you are here to ask questions, not give instructions on how to do it yourself (which is what this section is supposed to be), I moved it to the suspension portion.

Not according to Koni's site. They can be used safely in conjunction with lowering springs.

Re: Can't decide which setup I should go for

They're fine for lowering, just wouldn't drop it too much. Directly from Koni's website "combine perfectly with blue KONI SPORT springs and other lowering springs"

Running them right now with a 1-1.25 in drop on Eibach springs. Not much but roads suck too much to drop more than .75 further anyway. I've had them on for 3/4 of a year or so and I'm happy with them.

Re: Can't decide which setup I should go for

oh, good to know. some miata guys had them blow, but then, miatas have very little travel in their suspension, so that could been a factor when lowering. Blues do not work well in them either.
