Rear sway bar link rod snapped

So yesterday the Civic crossed the 140,000 mile mark and to celebrate a few miles later it a pop sound from the rear of the car Pulled over and found the left rear sway bar link rod had snapped at the joint with the ball joint housing. In a way I am not too surprised. I upgraded my rear sway bar to a 21mm bar from an RSX Type-S.

So now I am looking for new links but I want something stronger than stock as I expect the same thing would happen again. I am looking on recommendations on what parts to get. I don't mind paying a few $$'s more for a quality part. I don't want it to snap again. Thanks in advance.

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
I've seen just how long some of the aftermarket choices last (noisy again at only 30k).

I'd be inclined to put a fresh set of factory links back on it, they lasted 140k so I'd expect the next set to do the same.

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
Moog is always a good replacement. They should last just as long as OEM or longer and if you get the right ones you can grease them. If they snapped at 140k they should have been replaced a long time ago. Hopefully you checked everything else out to make sure it's okay. Sway bar link breaking is minor compared to say... a ball joint.

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
OEM or Moog is the way to go.

I can't wait till mine break so I can feel safe on new ones, lol
But as mentioned, you're fortunate that it was only an endlink snapping. It's practically harmless.

I have these on my rear:

They have been great! I'd have too look in my book to see how many miles are on them. Don't know if they are noisy (exhaust, sub) I can't tell.

OEM is always top quality!!!

Sometimes i worry that my end links will snap in the middle of a hard corner and i will go flying off the face of a cliff...

The Moog and the Dezod look good but I've seen people mention noise issues with the Dezod, did you have any issues GolNat?

I also found on the Dwzod website these Ingalls links. Would they be as strong as the Moog?

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
I prefer Moog over Ingalls. Especially if you get the greasable ones.

lol, I don't think that will happen. Unless you're taking a corner at 95 mph when it snaps, haha

I couldn't accurately tell you since I have an exhaust and my tires sound like a jacked up jeep with mudders (can't wait till the tread wears out).

They are more susceptible to dirt since the ends are open. A closed greased end will be the best at not making noise.

An end link with a grease fitting would be nice.

I've got a set of stock RSX endlinks laying around that I'm looking to get rid of if you change your mind on the MOOGs.

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
The Moog ones arrived today, will get them installed on Monday when I have access to jack stands. Was going to take the RSX ones except I was too late trying to cancel the order on Amazon, damn their efficiency lol.

Knowing Amazon's customer service, they'd probably give you a full refund and let you keep them, lol (Just don't be the annoying customer who does that sort of thing, haha)

Amazon is amazing. Best company ever.

Nah, wouldn't do that. Yes I like Amazon too. Only issue I have is with FedEx, the 2 day delivery (Prime member in Amazon) took 3 days.

Why cancel? Honestly Moog are just as good as OEM.

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
The only reason I was going to cancel and get Speed's RSX link is that they were a lot cheaper lol

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
I'll take his RSX links then

Maybe for future use because I'm definitely going to snap mine eventually with my 21mm bar and slammed rear suspension :P

Re: Rear sway bar link rod snapped
^hit me up if you want them lol I have an lx with the Progress adapter kit so I literally can't use them because the mounts for the kit use a different end link. I'll have to make my own end links if mine break.
