Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

good except the control arms. just get the energy suspension bushings and have it pressed out (not that expensive, and they are lifetime bushings). why replacing ball joints and tie rods? are they bad?

Thanks for the reply!

Since the car has over 100,000miles and I'm already replacing the shocks/springs, I might as well replace the ball joints and tie rods..

I was thinking about just getting the bushing's from energy suspension but I heard they make sounds in the winter and being in central Canada winters last a looonng time. Also the local shops want 50-60bucks just to push out the bushing.

Should I replace the Strut Mounts?

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

probably yes. i didnt and mine make popping sounds. ofcourse thats 100k old top mounts. if you dont like noise, just stick with oem rubber bushings. but dorman is a pretty terrible brand, esp for critical parts like control arms.

Any good place online to buy OEM control arm rubber bushings and strut mounts?

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

What do you think about the list below?

Strut Bellows (Is it recommended to replace?)
MOOG Part # K90462 Incl. Bumper - Front
MOOG Part # K90467 Incl. Bumper - Rear

Strut Mounts
MOOG Part # K90648 Incl. Bearing - Front Upper

Stabilizer Bar Links (Second pair for when the stock ones go)
MOOG Part # K90455

If I did go with the Energy Suspension bushings, should I get the Front Control Arm Bushings (#16.3116) or just spend extra and get the whole kit (#PackageDeal002) (http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...PackageDeal002)

Am I missing anything?

thanks for the input

You should only need to do these if they look bad

The moog end links are thicker than the stock ones and should last longer

This is your choice, it would probably be a good idea to replace them all at once, esp if the fronts are bad, mine were when I got my car at 107k miles, and the kit makes it a bit cheaper

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

I'm changing my suspension bushings too, the car is at 145k km now and judging by the noises coming from the suspension I'm guessing even the arm and stabilizers bushings are bad. What are the cons of the polyurethane ones? I hear they are a lot harder than the oem's, and since my shock springs are modified(cut 2 turns) I guess those wouldn't be a good choice for me. Am I right?

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

i couldnt tell any ride comfort difference going from oem to poly for lca bushings. all they do is make more noise in the winter but only going over slanted driveways or taking a turn fast. driving normally on a paved road there is no sound. in the summer they are completely quiet in all conditions. with the poly, the car is more stable when cornering at high speeds because the alignment settings are held better. poly is also a lifetime part whereas oem maybe lasts 60k miles or less.

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

Shocks and springs are gonna be the biggest thing that you would notice ride comfort change on, most everything else should be minimal. Even if you did notice ride comfort change a little bit, it should return back to normal in a few days/weeks when they settle and all that. Ive never really noticed any noises with my ES LCA bushings, only when the old ones I replaced were ripped apart into a few pieces it popped. I also want to think when I was looking prices for oem (advance etc) to the ES the ES ones were cheaper

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

You guys say that because you drive in the most plain flat streets in the world... But believe me, here in Brazil every single bushing plays a big role on minimizing noises. The roads are just ridiculously uneven and we have big *** speed bumps on almost every corner.
That's what concerns me the most... Otherwise I'd have already gotten one of those. But I'm still going to test it someday.

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

all the more reason to get poly bushings. those roads will tear up oem rubber parts and throw off the alignment, which will cause more tire wear (with more noise) and poor steering performance. that reminds me, softer compound tires can also greatly affect the ride comfort. even with a pretty stiff suspension setup, i am riding cushy with general altimax hp tires. they are almost broken in at 3k miles and finally starting to really perform in turns. ive had cheaper tires before and it felt like i was riding on metal lol. i run the new tires at 35psi too and they are still way softer than the old tires (junk fuzions) at 30psi. it feels like a different car.

meh.... assumptions....love it when people do this and are completely wrong....I currently live on a farm in the midwest of the states, drive on plenty of gravel roads which are anything but flat, drive on a ton of county roads that hardly ever get taken care of (my work is in the middle of nowhere). Especially after the snow plows tear the crap out of them. At least when I move here in a few weeks, it will be a little better. My suspension was bad before I got this car, now it is completely horrible in bout 9 months time...I will soon be replacing shocks and springs, but have already had to replace bushings. Never noticed any noises or other issues with the energy suspension set, but the OEM were just horible for where I drive. Like gear said, oem won't last long in the crappy roads like the poly set would, the poly ones are way more durable.

Re: Rate My Suspension Rebuild!

Alright you guys have convinced me to get one of those!! I just hope I don't get the 60% taxes this stupid brazilian customs randomly applies over imported products.

And I'm sorry about my assumption, I should have considered situations like yours before actually saying.. Don't take me wrong, I just meant it in a general way

Thanks for your help guys!
