Rear Suspension - drops, feels weak

Got 2001 Honda Civic DX, 5MT Sedan.

My car used to drop everytime i went over a speed breaker. It almost comes down too quick but did not bounce up and down after that. Anyways I figured my rear suspension has got week so replaced with new shock absorber unit (Damper only - not the spring) OEM Parts.

After all the trouble of replacing them (rear shock absorber bolts were rusted and to cut them loose) I still does the same thing, though suspension feels a little stiffer.

The question is, was my diagnosis wrong or there is something else I forgotten to take a look at. The bushing of all the arms were good so did not bother to fool with them. Or I should have squeezed my *** and replaced the springs as well.

Any suggestion thoughts might help... but I am not gonna fix it though... right now I am broke (going to school). Just want to know what went wrong.

ashok.

Springs are probably shot too, replace as well when you get a chance.

Also if you have a lot in your trunk......speakers........it will cause this problem. The stock springs are not strong enough to hold a big stereo unit.

There is a cheap way of helping the problem. Not a total fix but something to get by.

Do a google search for Spring Stiffener Cushion. Never used them but they might help.
