paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

ok, so i took a drive to albany to visit some friends and party and blah blah....basically, the drive there was pretty scary. here's the deal:my car runs pretty ok during normal speed limits. its actually a pretty decent ride up to about 65 mph. any faster and my steering wheel vibrates A LOT and my car feels like its gonna fall apart. idk if its the car itself or if thats how civics are but its not a healthy feeling. any ideas/input/ANYTHING? should i be concerned...like i said, normal speeds, car runs great, but fast highway speeds and i feel like my car is fall apart from the inside...

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

Firstly let's get one thing clear: Civics Never Falls Apart unless it's neglected like hell.

Now to ur problem. Yes this question has been asked by many, try searching the forum to get a better understanding.

From ur description, either ur alignment is mest up, or u need new tires with proper suggested size with good brand, since this happens only when ur accelerating then u do not need to worry about ur brake pads.

Is this Normal for Civic to Vibrate at those speeds?
- No it's not and u shud def. get this taken cared off.

Also are you all stock? Or you have different wheels and suspension? I would start by taking a look at your tires.

bad wheel balance, or tires. mine does it above 60 but i have junk aftermarket rims. oem was smooth up to 100mph.

ok, first, this car is my baby lol so i treat it as well as possible! i dont know what the problem is so i wasnt too sure what to search for...like i said, i thought it was just me being paranoid =/

suspension is stock. umm, my tires still have plenty of tread. theyre not too old either. however, my car has 113k miles and nothing has been changed or replaced. brakes work, suspension has held up and nothing seems wrong under 65 mph.

i had spun out twice during the winter cause of reckless speed in horrible winter conditions...(dont know if that would mess up anything) but no accidents or crashes. never hit anything either (knock on wood)!

but yeah, i deff wanna get this checked out...

Alignment and/or tire balance is all it sounds like. Doubt it's any more serious!

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

ok so here's the deal...i took it my car to some tire place just to see if they can visually see something wrong with it...
they showed me that my passenger strut was leaking oil and its friggin expensive to replace. they said its about 700 bucks to replace both front struts...wooh wooh!
anyway, im gonna go and get my wheels balanced tomorrow. didn't have time today but any feedback? should i just buy struts online and get em put in? by the way, another shop said they'll do it for 600. rip off?

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

could be exhaust pipes hitting frame? also most place dont know how to balance tires. i had mine done over 5x at 3 different shops (one was a specialty wheel/alignment shop) and they always would vibrate. went to sears just for fun, shake is still there but much less noticable. it might be the rim tho if the machine isnt precise or something idk. swap your front and rear tires around and see if the speed that the vibration happens at changes. if it does, it may be the tires causing it.

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

i thought it had something to do with the exhaust pipes but idkk, like i said, the rattling goes away and comes back. as for the tires, i'll try gettin em rotated again. should i just do front to back or like switch em too?

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

well the thing you want to try for is to get the "bad" tires in the rear because you hardly feel them in the steering. put the good tires up front cause thats where majority or vibration gets sent to the wheel.

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

I have a 2006 si that was having the exact same problem. ran fine til i got to about 62, 63....then the whole car would start shaking and i thought it was gonna blow up. i didnt think it could be the tires because i just put new ones on about 6 months ago and they looked fine. well i took it to the shop on saturday and all 4 tires had to be replaced. they wear from the inside out so it may be hard to see the tread wearing. also come to find out i need a rear chamber kit because one of the wheels is about 3 degrees out and they were not able to align it. the car runs great now that i put new tires on but they told me if i didnt get that kit installed, i can expect to get yet another set of tires in about 3-4 months. my suggestion, have someone take a look at all the tires and if needed, get them replaced and get an alignment.

yeah that was a recall issue i believe. the stock suspension is screwed up on those newer civics.

oh man, gear you've done it again! i got my tires re-rotated and the vibration has decreased a lot! its still there kinda, i haven't tested it at speeds above 60 but it deff decreased. so im guessing my back tires are in crappy shape huh?

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

It could be bad axles. I had a 95 dx and sometimes when I drove fast it felt like the front wheels were gonna fly off. I didn't know wut was going on. I brought it to a shop and the axles were bad. I don't know exactly wut to tell you seeing as how I have never rode in your car, but it could be axles, ball joints, or bad springs. Bring it to a shop you can trust and have them take a look at it. If they say they can't find anything wrong tell them to take it somewhere and drive it above 60mph and then hopefully your problem will happen.

Re: paranoid? or is my car gonna fall apart?

Take it to repuatable shop. Remember to not be naive. Eventhough your car is f**ked up right now no one knows your car better than you. If they tell you something off the wall which some shops will, use your common sense to discern whether or not they are just trying to get some extra money from you. Good luck
