Dropping the ride...
Hey guys, good to be part of this forum!
so i have a 02 civic coupe. when i bought the car, the guy had dropped it a lot and left the stock shocks. the ride was terrible and the shocks bottomed out and hit the stops on a daily basis.
so i decided to take care of the problem and i got a full kit of tokico shocks and springs. it was a pain to install but i got it all installed and it looks and works great! I also needed tires so instead of getting new tires for my hub caps, i was able to get a great set of 17's with tires for almost the same price.
my wheels are 215/45/ZR17. i did the math and these new tires are a tad taller than my old 185/65/R15. but they are quite a big wider too, which might be the main problem.
the only problem is that on right turns and in heavy bumps, my left rear tire is contacting my fender! the left side might even be riding a little lower.
what do you guys suspect the problem is? also, can you guys explain "settling" will the springs ride EVEN lower once it settles? which would be big trouble for me. i was told to wait like a month and then get an alignment.... would an alignment help this issue?
i took pliars and bent the inner lip of the fender upward a bit, and its gotten better but still does bottom out. i dont want to wear out and damage my brand new tires.

thamindzzeye, you do need to get an alignment after the suspension settles (around 500 miles or about two weeks, whichever comes first). If the problem continues after the alignment, you can have the camber set a little negative (like 1 degree) in an effort to keep the tire from rubbing the fender. I am running normal spec camber (0 degrees) and I am having a fender/tire rubbing issue with my passenger side rear, so I'm rolling my fenders tonight. In order for your camber to be adjusted (and proper alignment) at all, you'll at least need a rear camber kit.

Okay, so I rolled the fenders last night following a DIY I found here:

Mine didn't turn out as 'perfect' as the one in the DIY, but it looks good. The paint cracked a little on the lip that is now hidden out of view, so I brushed on a little clearcoat to prevent corrosion/rust. All in all it took me about an hour to do both sides. Then I took the car out, cornered as hard as I could, went over a few dips in the road and.....NO MORE RUBBING!
