popping sound while turning steering wheel

I bought an '04 civic si that was dropped 2in. I had the stock springs put back in today. When I am sitting still, I can turn the wheel left and right and a popping noise eminates from the passenger side. Loose bolt maybe?

Thanks,
ric

No coilovers. I went back to the stock springs. I had the springs installed at Balanced Performance in the Buford area. They were closing when I arrived. I started the car and drove off. I did not notice the popping noises until I reached the traffic light up the road. I will call the shop in the morning to discuss with them. I did see the sticky concerning the popping noises, but the thread did not address when the sounds happen (during movement, in turns only, sitting still, etc) so that is why I posted. Whatever the case did not install the strut properly when they put it back, I am sure of that.

I had the same problem when Honda replaced my struts (twice). I'm on my third set of Mcphearson struts since new in 2001. I would take it back until they give me whole new strut assembly (one piece)...Somehow they could never get it right when attempting to rectify the pop sound. I think it has something to do with the way the spring is mounted in the perch...hence the noise of the spring moving making the pop..Just my thoughts

my front passenger side makes a popping noise also, but its only when i turn left. i originally thought it was the styrofoam inside the door because i have taken the door apart and that styrofoam block is relatively loose in there but it may be the spring i guess. anyways, it is quite annoying i know.

I bet the spring is not seated properly in the perch. This sound was not occurring this morning before I had the springs changed out.

The spring is probably not seated right. I had that problem, but I just drive around with it. Doesn't bother me much. But, now it kind of went away. Guess it got settled in there?

OK. My wife turned the wheel while I shined the flashlight on the spring. As the spring is turning it is getting hung up and then it lets loose. In other words, it is binding up. It is probably not seated properly. I will take it back to Balanced Performance tomorrow for repair.

It's pretty easy to DIY.
Unless your getting it for free at that place.

Since I paid them today to do it right, I assume they will make it right. I hope they do. They quoted 275 to change out the springs and then told me it was 325 after they fixed it because, "they had to spend extra time getting the rear camber kits out" and he also said they he was pretty sure that he had talked about the price increase the other day when I showed him the stock parts in my boot. Anyway, if you ever decide to do business with Balanced Performance in Sugar Hill Georgia, get the quote in writing. I meant to remark to him this morning that it was still 275, right? but I decided not to because he seemed like a good guy. It steams me pretty bad, so I will probably not use them for any more work.

It may that your springs aren't on correctly or that your steering linkage is bad. I dunno if civics have them, havent check. i'm sure they do, but on my sis's eclipse, hers passenger side ones were bad which made the popping noises. all i did was replace them and good as new.

Hey burke240, are you saying just jack the car up and use something to turn the spring? I guess I could borrow a spring compressor from Autozone and that would probably make it easier. I just know which way to turn it. Trial and error ok?

thanks,
