ATTENTION: S-Tech and spring installers
Hello all, it just seems I keep having problems after problems with my suspension. I just installed Tein S-Tech on Tokico Blues and the install seems fine. I lined up the arrows and the springs are put on the struts snuggly. I feel my combo to be VERY stiff, I can feel every bump on the road as I go over them like nothing is absorbing the bumps.
First quesion is to those who have installed S-Tech before. On the springs themself, there is a brown rubber cover on the end of the springs, I'm not sure what that is for and I wasn't sure if it went on the top of the strut or bottom but looking on the springs, I put them on the bottom because the words written on the spring can be read normally and if i did it vice versa then the words would be upside down. Did I do that correctly or do I need to move the covers if possible to the middle of the spring?
Next quesion is about the squeaking noise I get if I go off a curb. I can duplicate the sound easily if I go up a curb with one wheel and then drive down it as it puts the cars weight on that wheel. This only happens to the passenger front wheel and nothing on the drivers. The 2 rears I can hear a little bit if I jump up and down in the trunk but nothing alarming. What can it be?
Last question, I read through some threads and people have lubed the hell out of their suspension somewhere while installing their struts/spring. Maybe this will fix question 2 so where do I lube the suspension actually? What kind (brand, lube type...) and where should I buy this at? I also have some suspension joints I want to oil up like the tie rod end, control arms and such, what kind and where can I get this at too?
PS. I searched.
forgot to say I'm from Toronto, Canada and what to find these things locally.

then i should be fine, but going up a bump really shakes up the car. I don't think it's hitting the bump stop as its not like a large bang as the struts hit the bump stop, but rather it feels so stiff that it feels like there is virtually no bounce.
let the suspension wear in some... it's brand new stuff, so it's gonna be rough for a while... i have the s-techs on my EP and they were kinda stiff at the beginning... just give it a couple more weeks to wear the two in and you'll be fine...
S-Techs on stock struts and they ride pretty close to stock. I left the covers to the ends so that there is no metal to metal contact. Lubed the upper front mounts and where the springs sti in the strut.
Did you trim your bump stops??

I've got the same setup.. Stechs on tokicos. I agree. the ride isn't great and for the drop I figured it would be decent ride considering I see guys with their tires flush to the fender well and our set up still leaves a bit of a gap. I've noticed that my fronts make a kind of clanking noise when I hit sharp hops in the road (like a small speed bump or something similar) and my backs have the squeek you're talkin about. Like when i drive into a driveway up the slope really slow it squeeks as the weight shifts. My front passenger also has the annoying popping noise even though I was careful to index it all correctly and lubed and straigtened out all the bearings in the perch mount or whatever. I sometimes regret ever touching this damn car.

I've got S techs on stock right now. The ride is great. No gap in wheels and I have stock wheels and tires. You may have gotten some knock offs. I know I was worried about mine when I ordered mine. But checked them and they were correct.
Well do any of you have any bigger wheels and the drop with teins? Cus I have 17s and 215/45/17s on there and my ride is pretty hard on rough roads. That extra amount of tire on the 14s or 15s that come stock is a lot more cushion especially when you half to run your tires at a lil higher psi to minimize rim damage. If someones on stock or tokicos with stechs with 17s or bigger and their car rides really smooth then thats nuts. I must have got knock-offs.
i am not sure if u did a good job installing the tein & tokicos or did u buy ur teins on ebay (cuz they got knock offs) if u can stop by ATL i will install it for you, i got that combo and ****... the ride is superb... better than anything i ever had, and trust me i tried bunch of shock/spring combos...but i think u maybe didnt align the index

Weird, I'm rocking that to but I have a 1 1/2 finger gap n rear and and little less then 1 finger in front. Mine weren't knock off eithers. I feel every bump too and got some knocking noise coming from passenger front side. I need to get some Tokicos ftw! Or some coilovers...Must be nice to adjust when you want your ride lower...
im so sick of posts with people who cant figure out that lowering = increased ride harshness, go airbags if you wanna be a caddy and keep these posts off our site. The search button is a powerful tool, take a second and look before posting. This question has been posed a million times.

thank you for posting something useful your a huge help as usual robbclark, i just hate ti when you ask a question and people just try to make remarks about it instead of asnwering the thing in the first place. Oh btw ill be out that way for my buds wedding i think its nov 19th or something ill check for sure later
you know that these forums wouldnt be around if people didnt use them to ask a question every now and then, i personaly get tired of people BITCHING b/c someone asked a question and maybe they searched and didnt find the exact answer they needed for their current situation, maybe they jsut want a few more opinions.
I have S-Techs on stock shocks, with 17" wheels and I think the ride is great, quiet, perfect height, I am really happy with them! Maybe yours aren't installed properly or are imitations??? I didn't use lube when I put them in and I used the insulators on the bottoms of the springs, hope this helps!
not being an ***, just stating a fact. If facts make you an *** then ill be an *** any day of the week. Fact is, there are a million topics already on this and i dont know about the rest of you guys, but when theres a sticky on spring noise and you dont even check that first........ why are you wasting peoples time on here, im all about helping people out but not with the same question over and over... it gets old.

he said he searched, who knows if he did or not...just going by his word. like hwt 101 said "maybe they searched and didnt find the exact answer they needed for their current situation, maybe they jsut want a few more opinions". i mean your thread was basically the same thing and the guy was an *** to you i guess and you didnt like it. so now that you've been in this forum longer than someone, you can do that to him? even though you were pissed when someone did it to you? that makes a whole lot of sense...
