Angry Please Help Me.... (Suspension Problem)

I'm a "newbie", so don't flame. I've searched for almost a year and a half and I'm tired of sifting through thousands of posts. I can no longer take it anymore! So please help.

My setup is as follows: Koni-Yellows with Ground Control Coilovers

I'm hearing creaking and popping sounds from the front-end of my car everytime I hit a bump or if I'm turning the wheel . These sounds are not only embarassing but VERY ANNOYING. It sounds like metal on metal. I had a shop do the install over 2 and a half years ago, they told me that the front struts had to be "shaved" or cut in order to install the Koni's (I read how people had this done, so I thought nothing of it). I am pretty certain that this is the cause of the noises that I'm hearing.

My question is this, "Is there a cheap fix for this?" (cheap meaning a few hundred dollars) or "Am I going to have to spend about a grand to get a full-coilover system"? What do I need to do?

I've searched every facet of the internet and the results vary. You advice is the only I truly value (cause you guys been there). So PLEASE help me...

Thanks in Advance,
Henry

I really like the coilovers (adjustability) so the spring is out of the question. But they make replacement struts for Ground Controls/Koni's, what exactly are you trying to say? (I'm sorry if I sound really dumb, I really not mechanically inclined).

coilovers wil not solve ur problem, i have teins and i cant figure out why mine are making noise, ive tried everything from greasing the bearings from the inside out to wrapping the bottom of the spring in cable wrap, its still making noise

Okay Henry!

My "old" suspention set did the EXACT SAME thing as your is now...

I had cheap "R1 Coilovers" ($90) and stock struts... Needless to say they blew!!!

Yes my friend YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY A NEW SET UP!!!

Hear is the link too prove you poor poor ground control's are probily DEAD!!! http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=243399

I dont know how reliable the shop you took it too install the parts are... but ther is a good chance they fcked them up.

Yep buy a set up!

Good luck!!!

Me thinks you guys are over reacting with the whole "you need to buy a whole new setup" thing.

HenDogg78, has it allways made this noise? if so, then the shop installed them improperly and should have fixed the problem. if not then you need to diagnose a few things before we can help.

1. are you still using the stock upper bearing? have you checked it to see if its greased/seated properly?
2. have you checked all of the connecting bolts on the konis to see if they are tight?
3. what year civic do you have? if its an 02 or newer are you sure you have the right diamiter Konis installed?

Thanks for all the replies so far guys, keep em' coming!

Zzyzx, to respond to your questions: I own a 2001 EX, the noise that was described in the original post started happening a little over a year after install (Approx. 1 and half years ago). I'am still on stock upper bearings, I got the ground controls, koni's, and a camber kit (front and back) all installed at the same time. I haven't checked it to see if everything is all greased up because quite frankly, I really don't know how to do it. I wouldn't even know where to begin to look.

Without tearing everything apart, are there any quick tests or visuals that I can do or look at to diagnois the problem? Would you take it to a Midas or Tuffy to get it look at?

well i had an odd popping whenever i hit bumps on the road. my problem was the bottom bolt on the koni to oem housing loosened. it also sounded metal to metal. i had a shop torque it and i have had no problems since.

Ok, one more question. does it happen when you steer, or just when the suspension compresses.

and it would be a very good idea to check and see if the lower bolt is tight as Tuner04civic brought up. Mine came loose once and it made quite a racket.

Just to answer Z's question, I can hear noise when I steer and when I hit bumps on the road. I really think I'm going to heed to Tuner's and your advice and check to see if the bottom bolt to the housing is loose. I'm hoping that is the problem cause I hate the thought of shelling out another $1,000 to get a new setup.
