Smile Sedan Finally Dropped w/ Pictures

2001 Civic Sedan LX

DROP - Tokico Struts and Springs Combo 1" all around

Overall very happy with the ride quality.

Only thing that sucks is it still makes a pop/clunk noise on my front passenger side wheel. Whenever I hit small bump either turning LEFT or going straight it makes the sound and it is realllly anoyying. If anyone knows what this is please let me know, it happened with stock suspenion and this suspension so im guessing it can't be Springs or struts.

Here are the pics:

1st Pic - Painted Chrome front piece trim, OEM fogs, and 1" Drop

2nd Pic - Side Shot

3rd Pic - 15" OEM Honda sport rims (removed center cap)

Runner1736 - I put that in the post =) But they are Tokico Struts (Blues) and Springs Combo 1" all around - I got them off ebay.

RHCP0801 - It's not the struts, the sound was there before I installed the new struts and springs.

It is the CV Joint going bad. Mine is doing the same thing. At first it was one noise, now the grooves are rubbing together when the right wheel is spinning faster than the left in a turn.

yes i read that part about the shock being tokico blues, i was asking what springs they were because i was thinking about going with the tokico blues and eibach springs (pro kit) which supposedly give a .8 to 1 inch drop

Runner1738 - I am not sure what springs they are, but All I know is it came as a combo set they were not seperate. If you are interested the part number is #HPK309 for the sedan I believe #HPK307 for coupe.

Tragedy - CV joint ? Is there a way I can check that out myself to make sure? Also how much would it cost to get a new CV joint?

Thanks for the responses guys.

Runner1738 - It rides MUCH better than stock. The ride is a tad stiffer, but a lot less bouncy, you feel more control of your car. Overall very happy. Just need to figure out what that sound is comming from now.. Anyone know how much CV joints cost?

dude, its not your cv joint, your springs are not properly indexed... the popping and clunking is actually the spring twisting and turning in its mounts because they arent lined up correctly with the shock.. this gets mistaken all the time for bad cv joints... read this

http://www.10thgencivic.com/forums/s...d.php?t=243399

glad you like your setup though, i was going to get the same one since its not too low of a drop but i opted out of the springs and just got the shocks since the highways here are like minefields......hope i dont regret it

Civicman1988 - Thanks man I like it too =)

01vic - Ya I think you might be right about the slight springs noise im getting, BUT as for the clunk sound, I have been getting that same clunk sound with my stock shocks and springs so I am pretty sure that sound is not comming from the new struts and springs.

how many miles do you have on your car? im willing to bet it was a blown strut making the clunking before the new tokicos, and now is a badly indexed spring... but hey, you can go get smoe new CVs if ya want..

edit: did you read the link at all???

01vic - Ya I understand that. And it probably is the casue for the squeeks I hear when I turn my wheel while parked.

As for the CLUNK sound it doesn't make sense that its the indexing. The exact same sound is occuring with my new struts and springs. Unless you are telling me that my Front passenger side was both indexed incorrectly on my stock setting and aftermarket setting.

No it is not the spring. You can take your rim off, look at the spring, and notice that it has not moved, and sits snugly in the proper space. The noise occured with my stock struts and springs, and now with my new ones as well, thus leading me to focus on the cv joint, as our generations sometimes have axle and cv joint problems.

I just took of my front passenger wheel, and did an inspection of the CV boot, it looks like its in good condition, no crack or breaks anywhere... Also checked for leaks for grease didn't see anything?

Damn I don't know what it can be? Is there a better way to inspect the CV joint than just with an eye inspection?

Someone answer this question, because I think the answer is no. The cj joint problem is inside the boot, more specific, grooves that are rubbing together.

zen_master is on a distinguished road
i did have that noise (stupid one) with my 02 coupe...

but suddenly....that noise just gone....

consider re-torque the bolts which connect the control arm/knuckle to the strut (something like that)

Gearbox - I dunno for some reason I just think they look better without... Also my lug nuts are too big for them to fit anyways =)

Zen_Master - Was it really bad clunk sounds everytime you turned? If it's that simple I will definately give it a try

Re: Sedan Finally Dropped w/ Pictures

It might be the strut mount. That's the mount that is on top of the strut.
I have an 07 Mustng GT too. That's the same sound that the strut mount makes when it is bad.
