Help Plz????
Ok, so my roommate wants to get 17" rims for her 01 civic cpe, so I'm doin some research for her. I was searching on this forum for the last 4 hrs, and i've kinda heard mixed opinions on whether this will rub or not.
here's the story:
She doesn't want to lower it that much, just doesn't want her civic looking like a monster truck. 205/40/17 looked way off without dropping it alot (she didnt' wanna slam her car or anything), so was thinkin of goin 215/45/17 instead for her. the thing is, some people recommend that size to go with 17" rims, but i read on a thread that with a 1.5" drop or something, it rubs on u-turns and stuff...btw...i think the max drop she wants is 1.5".
some threads even suggested 205/45/17 or 215/40/17, but she doesn't plan on dropping it right away, so i'm thinkin this is gonna look monster-truckish until she were to drop it. Also, those tires are harder to find, correct?
my question is, what's the max u can drop it with 215/45/17 tires without any rubbing issues or rolling the fenders? Also, do you think this should be the tire size of choice if only planning to drop it max of 1.5" or not?
Thanks in advance!

...also, i take it the 215/45/17 should be used with 17x7.5 rims instead of 17x7? that tire calculator thing just confused me more on that

thx for the reply btw...i appreciate it
215's fit fine on 7" wheels.

215/40/17 and dropped at 1.5 inches WILL NOT RUBBED at all. I have a 215/40/17 and its dropped at 2 inches around, no problem with rubbing with the dropped. U should not have any problems with 215/45/17 either because the total diameter including the rubber tires is the same as the total diameter of the stock steelies. you'll probably start having the rub if u drop it around 2.25-2.50.

215/45 shouldn't rub though, huh? except MAYBE on hard turns like u-turns or something? probably hard turns with people in her car for sure though, huh?
i have 215/45/17 on my 1.75 front and 1.5 rear drop and i have no rubbage at all. it looks like it would but there is absolutely none. but i guess if u were to take a hard u-turn it could be possible of rubbage but how many times would you make a u-turn unless u cant drive worth crap. here are pics if u want to see (also scroll down a bit there are more pics)
