KYB agx with stechs
KYB agx with stechs
ok so i have the stechs with my stock shocks and they bottom out a lot so i ordered a set of kyb agx.
was wondering if i will have any problems with them if i use the stechs on them.
i have a sedan btw and i like the drop of the stechs so it would be cool if i could keep the teins and save some money

I don't see why you would. I don't know of anyone with that combo so not many people are going to be able to comment.

I ordered a set of kyb agx's yesterday and I also have tein S.Techs on my 02 EX coupe. Im looking forward to no bouncing down the road anymore. We will see what happens. Ive heard good things about the AGX Shocks so hopfully they turn out good on my car, as well as yours
Im running stock shocks right now btw

hmm the reason i ask is cuz the stechs are made for coupes weight distribution
and the sedans is obviously different
btw, will i need to use my factory bump stops for the rear?
the kybs didnt come with any
also is it possible to blow these shocks?

you can blow just about any shock, it varys on your driving habits.
if your just cruising from point A to B, then you'd be pretty set as long you dont drive over dips and potholes like your driving an suv.
eventhough you have aftermarket and better struts/shocks, should still be careful with dips/potholes/bumps/etc.

AGXs are not meant to be lowered more than 1.5". They're engineered to work with the stock springs. At leats that's what the papers say. I have them installed in my car with the stock springs and they feel really nice in both handling and quality of the ride. Also, they don't come with bump stops, so you will need to use the stock bumpstops.
thanks for the replies
i got my rears on today
no time for the fronts until tomorrow
i'll have a full review tomorrow
i left the bump stops in the rear but i cut about 1/4 of the top off
it seems ok
but i dont know somone tell me how much i should cut
should i just follow the tein instructions?
also i noticed the drop isnt as low maybe went up about 1 finger space
used to be like 2 finger space now its like 3
no biggie i actually prefer it this way but i dont know is it normal for it to raise up?

Your shocks were most likely blown, so your car tends to be lower. When you install new shocks the car will be higher. My fronts were fully blown and went up about 1.5" up when I installed the AGXs.
once you get the fronts off, you may remove the springs. next, carefully place the agx next to the strut you pulled out, standing them up on floor side by side it is easy to see what im talking bout. if it is a stock strut, you will notice that the bottom spring plate of the agx sits about 1/4 inch higher. there is your additional height.

sweet
i wont be needing new springs now
yay.
i can totally tell the difference between the stock and the AGX
since the front are still stock its even more obvious
i tried it at setting 4 and 1 just to see how much difference there is
i also noticed that when i was putting it back in that i had to push down on the lower arm to get it to fit so yea makes sense that it got higher
thanks for all the input
i'll be putting my fronts on later today and i will have a full review.

I set mine on 2 in front and 3 in the back with stock springs. The ride is stiff, but still comfortable. I've made a few test runs and the car feels more neutral than before, specially since it doesn't have a rear sway bar, only the 25 mm stock front. The car feels more composed during fast transitions. In the tighter sections the cars shows understeer but still less than before. It has more room for steering input before washing out. Tire pressures were adjusted for the second pass and it helped a bit, although it seems the tires might become a limiting factor now, instead of a stock suspension. At 205 mm, the HTR 200 tires are wider but the sidewall feels somewhat soft on the 14-in steelies. So far the impression is quite good for the AGXs, specially on less than perfect sections which might upset the balance of the car. On rough pavement the stock suspension would make the car a little nervous but with the AGXs the car feels more planted and it doesn't feel like the car will spin out over the patchy tarmac. Full wet conditions have not been done yet but looking forward to it...
congrats on the install.
I got my rear set on 1, and front on 3, and i did this cause i got the stiff progress sway on the rear, it feels real secure. if i get the front progress sway i may have to adjust the front to 4 to retain my understeer.
