you need a pressure switch. The pressure switch is like an on off button which turns your compressor on and off depending on how much pressure you set it at. Most people set it to around 120 for saftey reasons as well as warrenty, but some like to go higher for more air. They are usually around 20-50 dollars depending on which ones and are plumbed into your tank to read the air pressure

yes that is your P switch as you can see one line in one line out acts just like an on off switch but activated through the pressure in your tank. It also looks like you may be using "push in" type air line connecters. This is a problem or can become a problem since they are prone to get lose due to slight movements. If you do have push ins i reccomend switching everything over to compression type fittings. You can learn more on http://www.streetsourcemag.com/Forum...px?forum_id=16

So how do i hook this up to the compressor in order for it to turn the compressor off when its at a certain psi? Right now that hooked up to the 12v on the relay, activated when the car is on.

the P switch is connected to your relay as the on/off for the relay like a remote wire. refer to http://www.streetsourcemag.com/Forum...px?forum_id=16 for reading and help

I hated having a pressure switch. At first I had little leaks here and there and the compressor would come on all the time. I hated it. I took out the pressure switch and hooked the compressor to a switch. I turn it on and off when I want to now. I bought an extra gauge for the tank to see how much air I have in it. That's just me though.

I had my pressure switch hooked up, but I put a switch on the power wire going into the pressure switch. This let the pressure switch do all the work, but at night when I was afraid it would come on, I would just turn the switch off.

I hope you haven't been letting it build up too much if its always been running....

How did you have it wired when you had the pressure switch in? I tried to do it like Cypher said but it wouldnt work for me, i hooked up the positive wire off the pressure regulator to the ignition wire(activates the relay when car is on) and the ignition wire was hooked up to the relay, but that didnt work out....does the same thing, is that the right way im supposed to hook it up? Thanks.

wait maybe I get it, ok theres a black and blue wire coming off the pressure switch, im thinking 1 is for it to get 12v, and the other is output 12v, kinda like 12v aux to blue wire on ps switch, then black wire off pressure switch to the relay....sound right?

I think you have it...

the pressure switch is like a light switch, you've got power running constantly to one side, then the pressure switch controls if the power will go to the relay.

baggedblue02 you said your comp would turn on even when the cars off ??? thats not a good way to wire your switch, cause like you said it will turn on at any time which may cause it to either drain your batt or over pressure. You should have used a "switch" ignition wire instead of a constant hot wire. That way your comp doesnt turn on when the cars off.

I had an optima, so as long as it wasn't going to cut on constantly throughout the night once or twice was ok. It was just good that I could have the car off and still flip the switch and run the pressure up. The pressure switch also kept mine from over pressuring....

Ok this makes no sense and im getting really frustrated. Ok I have a black and blue wire, the black is ground...for sure. Ok and the blue, i hooked that upto the ignition wire thats going into the relay but that doesnt work either....it almost blew my compressor cuz i waited like 3:20 muintes and turned off finnally but then the compressor wouldnt turn on no matter what, i hooked it up to a 12v constant and a ground and it wouldnt turn on. I went on the net to look for a new compressor but when I went back it worked for some reason when hooked up to 12v/ground.

im thkinking of doing what blackbullet said and just hook it up to a gauge and a switch, for now i just have it hooked up to a gauge since the relay thing isnt working at the moment and i still need to get around with my car.

most of the compressors have a cut off if they heat up too much, just to keep you from messing them up too bad.

one wire should run to a positive connection, and the other wire from the relay should run to the relay, I don't think you have a ground on the pressure switch, mine didn't.

ok let me tell you exactly how I had it setup. Ok I had 12v from the battery going in to the relay at 87, then 30 going to the 12v on the compressor. Then I had one grounded, and the other was hooked up to 1 side of the ignition wire(the red wire on the pressure switch) and the other wire from the pressure switch(black wire) going into the relay. Sound right, or tell me if that even made any sense. BTW thanks for all the help and quick responses.
