Need Advice: Honda Dealership vs Shop

What I need done:

Tein SS installed
SPC front and rear Camber kit installed
Aem brake pads installed
Alignment after coilovers are installed

Situation:

I have a 2001 sedan, Im already out of warranty so thats not a concern. I need the above done but I dont know if i should have Honda do it or a shop. My friend works at the honda dealership and says that he knows mechanics there that would be willing to do the installs. Now, I also have a shop that I had work on my body kit already, and they too said they could do the install. The price is about the same, but my question is: Should i bring my car to Honda to install it, or the shop?

Concerns:

Can Honda install non-oem, aftermarket parts? Are they allowed to?
Is Honda going to get on my case for doing this?

Thanks for the help!

Do it all yourself with a couple friends and save the money.
If you're absolutely set on taking it somewhere, take it to a trustworthy shop, honda will *** ram you on it.

The honda dealer here will not touch aftermarket parts. They are even giving me a hard time installing oem fogs because I didn't buy from them. Luckily the site I ordered from is another honda dealer, so I can argue it. But yeah basically honda says no and you go to the other shop. Make sure it's somewhere you trust.

Doesn't matter if they are the same price. DO NOT GET YOUR CAR ALIGNED THE SAME DAY YOU HAVE THE COILS PUT IN!!! They need time to settle and you might need to play with them to get them to the right setting.

Do used springs need settling time on a different car?

my older brother got his eibach springs @ the acura dealer. He too had a friend that worked there and knew the mechanics.

He didn't have a problem with it, nor did Acura.

Well, me and my friends have little to no experience working with suspension. I worry that we will run into problems that we wont be able to handle. If anyone has a detailed DIY about coilover install, that would be appreciated. I know there is the spring DIY but is there a DIY specifically for teins?

Pretty much same.

Far as Tein ss installataion.
It's pretty much same as spring install , because you have to reuse upper mounts and bearings.

If you are not willing to install coilovers, just take it to shop and let them do it.
Not Honda Dealer.

Don't even go to the dealer. The prices they give u will turn u right back around .
Plus dealer does not like to mod cars.

So, if i do make this a DIY, what tools am i going to need, beyond the basic tools in my garage?

Im guessing i need a spring compressor. Anything else?

you don't really need a spring compressor, just be careful. Search for user MEX in this forum. His has a DIY. Basically, put the teins together without the mount.

1) Loosen wheel
2) jack up car
3) take wheel off
4) front loosen top 3 bolts in engine bay, but don't let them come out.
5) disconnect the brake line from front strut
6) prop up front brakes so you don't pull out your axle.
7) undo do the bottom mount bots (17mm i think)
8) drop down brakes out of the way but again, make sure the axle does not come out.
9) take off top mount and drop shock
10) follow Mex's DIY on how to take the mount off
11) attach mount to Teins and reinstall going backwards

Rears
12) rears are easier
13) just pop them out and put the new ones in.

All you should need is a good socket wrench 8mm, 14mm, and 17mm sockets and a lot of arm strength!

There is a brake DIY by Grey on the site. Those are easy too. Trust me, just get in there and do it. You will learn a lot more that way.

gearbox you should let them settle for a little bit, but not as long.

Thanks for the reply robbclark1, and all the good info. I do have Mex's DIY, and I've read it many times. I was going to use it to guide me through the uninstall of the stock assembly.

One of your previous posts says not to get an alignment right away. So, how long do I need to let my coilovers settle before i get an alignment?

actually some honda dealers will. We have one here that sells aftermarket parts including turbos and superchargers and installs them. Just the installation prices are rediculous. I think the last time I was at that dealer it was like $1200 just to install the JR supercharger on a 99 civic.
