koni front strut blown, should I replace with tokico?

Well, I had my koni struts installed about 4 months ago at a local shop here in southern NH. There was some degree of trouble on the part of the mechanics as they had to cut the stock strut well beyond koni's recommendations in order to get the koni insert to hit bottom on the stock assembly. Those were installed in the winter. Granted I live in New Hampshire and our snow and potholes can kill anything. But nonetheless, I seem to be always having trouble with suspension stuff. The shop now tells me that my passenger side strut is blown. I also have noise coming from the front when I clock my wheel completely one way or the other. Seems almost as though they are not seated properly. But anyhow, given the pain in the *** it seems to be to deal with "inserts" as opposed to real struts, should I just switch over to tokico's which will not require my retaining the original strut? Btw, I have the Neuspeed Sport springs.

i bet they put your strut assembly in 180 deg backwards. I had that happen when I got my car lowered and didn't figure it out until i took everything out again to do my shocks. Noticed some rubbing of the top plate and realized that they were not in properly. I also had some clicking/clanking sounds but they are gone now that its put together correctly.

Interesting, that would explain the noise on turning, but I don't think that is why they told me the right front one was blown.

I would send you blown strut back to koni and have them replace it. They are under warranty. All you have to pay would be the shipping the old strut to them and the install fee for the new one. If I were you, I would talk to the shop, sounds like they messed up the install. Try finding a shop that has experience with the koni installs.

From hearing what the Shop had to do with your stock struts.... Sounds like you got the wrong Konis from the get go.... you probably got the 55mm struts when you should have gotten the 50mm struts. you have a 2001 or a 2002? If so then thats what happened.....

The way I see it, you can replace the Koni's because they are under warranty. Also since your front strut assembly is already cut open everything should be ready for a new koni to just be dropped in.

bad thing about konis warranty process is that I bought a blown set of konis from another member and sent them to koni for replacement and they are taking forever to send me new ones.

Well, I think you should ask koni to replace it under warranty.
I would not install a Tokico if you have koni in the other side.

Good Luck.

i have the exact same setup suspension with the same problem with the konis. I just got a new strut and dropped it in. Also my strut mounts were worn out you might have the same problem.
