Help D2 dissassembly

I need to swap out the springs of the front Sturts of my D2 coilovers. How can I secure the top mount from spinning so I can undo the bolt? I am not able to put it on the car to do it.

Is there any other way?

Can't you take them apart from the bottom?
Unscrew the mounting bracket, then the 3 lock nuts and off comes the spring.
Thats far easier than dicking with the camber plate and the pillowball.

Grab the top protruding end with a wrench of the correct size and turn the big nut with another wrench.

Take the camber plate off first. The 4 allen screws remove it. Then you'll need to grab the big nut on top of the pillow ball, and put an allen wrench in the top of the shock piston rod. Get someone to hold the shock still or clamp it in something by the lower bracket. Don't grab the camber plate's bearing surface! Its aluminum, and the vise will crunch the edges they'll get sharp and they'll dig into the underside of the plate, and if there's munched edge stuff sticking up, it'll effect your camber later. After you get the nut off, as long as theres nothing on the underside of the pillowball holding it there, the bearing plate and pillowball should come off and the spring should come out.
This is just good theory here, I don't know for sure because my JICs disassemble from the bottom.

i did it last night by just 'burping' it with an impact it came right off. i tryed grabbing the top piece with one wrench and the bolt with anouther, but the top piece is not nearly strong enough for that. it kinda bends. good luck
