2001 EX Steering System Questions
2001 EX Steering System Questions
Hello,
I am doing some custom electronics for my car which is no problem, but the mechanics of the car are where I would like some input.
Firstly, what I need is a signal from the car that tells me the current rotation of the steering wheel.
From what I am told, the 2001 EX has HPS Steering, not EPS. I would consider having EPS switched in, and I found a thread someone was offering it for $1000 but that is a little steep. Even the parts were around $450 for the rack, and about $150 in other parts which is a bit pricy for 1 sensor.
So I am needing to find some wire somewhere, (even if it is in the ECU), that reports this.
If no wire exists, then it is plan B, make one!
So then it comes down to, where can I get to the actual column to where I could slip a ring on it so to speak from top or bottom I guess.
I dont want to dissassemble things unneccessarily if I dont have to. So if the steering wheel is removed, do I get the physical metal column behind it, or is it capped?
Thanks in advance
