Boilermaker vs. Spoon Sports
Well some of you may remember my little issue with Spoon's lower rear arm bar a couple weeks ago. I bumped into something on the road and the bar didn't seem up to the task of withstanding the shot... thats why it looks bent (it is). I'm pleased to announce I've remedied the problem. If you'll kindly refer to the attached image (which I apologize is so bad, but its from my video camera not a digital still), you'll find my bar is quite superior to theirs in almost every way.
First off, their's is 3/4" hollow aircraft aluminum, mine is 1" solid 4140 alloy... known to the lay person as Chrome Moly (the stuff they make BMX bike frames from). Mine is machined from 1 solid piece rather than 3 welded together. Most importantly, theirs unfortunately cost me $134, my new one was $5.50. Now I re-used the Spoon adjustable rod end, and their end plates, which might have raised my total to about $20, but you see my point here. Looking back, I'm not really sure why I shelled out all that cash for a stupid bar. Ahh well, my new one's not gonna break. Anything hits it, it might get dinged, thats about it.
Now as far as there being a flood of "Hey Boiler, can you make me one?"
I'm just going to say... we'll see. They take a good 2 hours to crank out, (CroMo isn't the greatest stuff to machine) and I want to make sure its gonna work out first. So we'll revisit this one in a few weeks.
