My Hayame review

Over all I think they suck, they are not too far off in ride quality from my nuespeed race springs and stock shocks. The installation was fairly easy, had to flip the tie rod.
Had no problems adjusting them except for one rear one. It just would not go as low as the other (before installation). After an hour of twisting and turning the thing I gave up and raised the other on to the same level. Glad I did because my rear is tucked about have of the rubber on the tire. I have about a 1 finger gap in the front. Right now the ride is still ruff like I said above except it does not bang / bottom out like the stock shocks. I know I need a major wheel alignment but the steering is super sensitive now and the car pulls all over the road. I like the height but the front tire rubs a little when turned all the way and did not do that with my race springs. I think I need to raise the front a 1/2 inch and the rear about 1 inch. I also need to figure out the proper way to adjust the pre load. The rear seems a little bouncy, should I increase or decrease the preload?
I hooked up my nitrous for the first time last night and with a 50 shot it was pulling hard to the right.
I think after I raise it a bit, adjust the preload, and get an alignment I will get my moneys worth but right now I will I spent the extra $ on the Tein or b&g.

Yes thats because of the alignment. Even if you got tein or B&G you would have had the same problem.
As for the preload, increase the preload on the rear to reduce the bouncing.

I knew it. The ride sucks compared to my TEIN SS. I never had a suspension with just the springs and OEM shocks and I didnt wanna compare them at all. But seems like I am proven right about how the ride sucks.

I never had a major steering problem with TEIN after the install. It was still decent to drive and doesnt pull that hard. Unlike the Hayame one that you really need to be careful when you drive it. Mind you, I lowered my car with TEIN on 2" drop and there was no change in steering that I can notice.

I cannot turn the pre-load perches on the rear anymore so I know I am 'supposed' to be at stiffest settings. But I still find this bumpy and too soft.

Whether its major or not its still always recommened you get an alignment after you touch the suspension especially when changing struts.

the issue at hand is whether its drivable or not after the install and not whether you should get an alignment or not.

dude its not that badd. I drove like that for 500miles. Even my dad didnt have any problems driving it

also your comparing the $650 hayames to $1100 tein ss(with damper adjust) of course its going to ride better. If I compared my $850 d2 to the hayames i would say they were better too.

Methinks you guys are expecting a $1000 ride from $650 coilovers. You do get what you pay for, don't expect all sorts of crazy suspension superiority with Hayames on.

That said, I finally got an alignment, and my car runs crazy stiff (and straight). I like my coilovers for the $650 ride height adjustment they are. Maybe next year I'll get something more trackable like D2's, but in the meantime, these are doin me just fine.

Yea TeLLy we already conclude the ride is stiff on the hayame. The good thing about hayame is you can adjust the height easily (only need to loose the third lock to adjust height). Great for winter. But if anyone wants a smooth ride with hayame = not possible.

Then what is possible. I rather sell these for a loss and try something else. I knew I should have just ordered the tein.

I don't know of any full coilover systems that are designed to give you a cushy ride. THEY ARE DESIGNED TO BE A PERFORMANCE ENHANCING PRODUCT. If you want a comfy ride get a nice set of aftermarket shocks and some soft springs.

Obviously you have no clue what you are talking about. Look through a couple of Hayame threads before you start talking. Also I wouldn't classify Ground Control with "those ebay coilovers".

I did not expect it to drive like a Benz for 650 buck but I thought I would at least get a 650 ride. It feels so close to my 150 race springs. Like I said earlier once I get it adjusted and aligned I am sure it will improve. I just wish I went all out with the Tein, just jumped the gun. I live in NYC so the ride on a stock suspension can be ruff, oh well someone will but them cheap from me eventually on Ebay if I am not impress for what they are after the adjustments.

IMO it's a $649 ride. The extra dollar was the ease of install. Sorry to be a smartass, lol. Placing a $ value on ride quality is subjective of course. But yeah like UrtbanImport says, full coilovers all tend to be on the stiff (and thus "rough") side. It sounds like you want a soft comfortable ride and as such I would be inclined to say "performance shocks with springs". I'm seeing a few posts on the Tokico Blues....

Yeah probably would have been a better choice for what I want. I still have my race springs so I might try out those tokico and if i like sell the hayames.

I think you should wait. Your race springs + tokico = stiff. You should wait for the tokico illumina and a set of soft springs like Goldline or coilover like Ground Control.

Thank you. This is all Im trying to say.

Hayame is 'you get what you pay for' system and 'not hayame best bang for the buck.'

I know hayame doesnt ride like TEIN, because you get what you pay for.

well if you compare them to coilovers in its category like tein basic, its best bang for buck.
BUT if you want to compare different categories like hayames/tein basic vs D2/tein ss THEN it comes down to you get what you pay for.
