Poly Bushings

Does anyone know about replacing the stock rubber bushings with polyurethane ones? Any info would be helpful. Another question is, what are the dimensions of the bushings. I work in a machine shop, and I was thinking of making my own, but I don't know what size.

Thanks

I don't suggest making your own except for maybe filling in OEM motor mounts. The rears are a pain and you will need other parts besides the bushings (metal inserts). The fronts must be pushed out with a press. for $80 you can get the whole set of front and rear control arm bushings by ES. If you have irregularities in your made bushings then that can cause problems.

cool, i'm looking into getting the Energy Suspensions bushings as well. Does anyone have the front and rear sway bar bushings upgraded? I was just wondering if there was any noticable difference?

I have both, yes, but only the rears are installed. I also have poly sway bar bushings. The rears are a BIOTCH to install. They take a lot of work and one even has to be burned out. The fronts are easy. Take the control arm out, get to a press, have them press it out, press in the new one and go. Zzyzx has the front ones installed.

The rears however, have little metal connectors that go in between them so the bolt can run through them. They also come in 2-3 pieces with one middle and 2 surrounding the middle.

It is hard to give my opinion because i also put my coils on at the same time since everything would be apart. The rears will take a whole weekend and you need a propane/butane torch and a vice grip attached to something stable. I liked doing things to my car to learn so to me it was worth it. I also got to hang with my buds, but because I autox the rubber bushings were bound to go eventually so I upgraded them. No complaints so far.

cool.
do you know if it is similar to the rear's in a crx? because I've done that on a friends car, and it was a real b*tch! But at least we have a little experience at it now.

Just a little FYI for you guys....so you don't do what I did!!! The fronts MUST be pressed out by a machine shop with a multi ton press...the front ones I am refering to. I caused $800 damage to my whip by fudging them up, broke the driver cv joint in two and killed the lower ball joint. Spent over $400 in parts!!!The backs went in with about 1 hr work...not bad at all. The result is quite nice...slightly stiffer ride but the steering response is much quicker. Trust me it is worth taking the fronts to someone and not trying yourself....I did and it killed my front end! Just a little heads up. Over all it is a really good investment. I do recomend getting access to a lift though.

It depends. Some people say $50-75 total from their experiences. I have called around and been quoted $60 per bushing!! That is why i haven't done it yet.

Where is the dealership? Does he have a press? I would be interested if it was a good enough price.
