The stock shocks will work, but chances are they won't last very long at all. Say your dropping your car by 3". If the stock shocks have about 4" of travel, you'll be left with only 1" of travel. Add to that the fact that the springs are stiffer = WAY more stress on the shocks.
Your best bet would be to upgrade your shocks at the same time. Then again, for slightly more you could get a Hayame full coil-over setup (shocks and springs) with WAY more features and much firmer, smoother ride...

ground control and skunk2 i heard good sides about AND bad.
i have skunk2s on my 03 coupe and so far they havent blown "installed last month".
i drive real careful and i pay more attention to what im about to drive on instead of lookin whats ahead. im dropped 2"ish front and 1.7"ish rear. on the skunk2s, u cant go as low as GC for the rear. the max in rear of skunk is like 1.8". but front goes real low.
ground control i believe has better quality into their parts becuz wen i was installin my skunk2 coilovers, it was real hard to adjust the perch.
for any extra $100, i would've went with Ground Control but i was low-ballin at the time i was checkin out for lowering.

I have to agree with ELaudio when lowering your vehicle you will put much more stress on your OEM shocks than they were made to handle. Eventually you will have to replace your OEM shocks. Your best bet would be to upgrade your shocks at the same time that you get your coilovers.
I had Ground Control Coilovers with Koni Shocks:
Ride Quality: 8 Adjustability on coilover: 7 Adjustability on Shock: 10
Overall its a good combination because Ground controls ride on Eibach springs which gives you a smooth ride.
I am currently using a Tein Coilover/Shock setup:
Ride Quality: 10 Adjustability on coilover: 9 Adjustability on Shock: NA
Overall its easier to adjust my ride height, the ride is much smoother I like this setup much better.
If you wait Tein might come out with a EDFC for our cars soon.
