coilovers - ride quality
coilovers - ride quality
i know, i know, ride quality isnt going to be great with the coilovers and some 35 tires, but is there anything i can do? my coilovers arent all the way down, but the car is still pretty much slammed and bumps/bridges and such on the interstate are torrential. is there anything else i can do besides air ride? im waiting on air ride tech to make the air strut kit. thanks!
well. ride quality depends on alot. granted, with 35 profile tires your ride will suck, and being that low, your ride will suck...
Im guessing you have sleeved coilovers with stock struts, automatically your ride will suck. lol, sleeved coilovers blow IMO. ride will be improved with aftermarket shocks, but i would recommend going to a full coilover suspension (B&G or Hayame since you wanna go so down low, but if you want more performance, TEIN). AIR RIDE have an even worse ride so i dont know why you would want that if your looking for ride quality.
i personally have tein SS and it rides better than stock, but im not tucking, im as low as it goes, which i believe is about 2.25" or so.
IBTL- been covered many times but im bored so i thought i would help. lol

he pretty much covered it all.
1) 35 low profiles will automatically suck
2) you are sleeves with stock shocks (most likely) so you will need to upgrade your shocks to make the ride better
3) Air ride is gonna make it worse
4) get a set of true coils (hayame, tein basic, tein ss)

Yeah Rob... wait until you get those JICs on with some 17s. You'll find out why I'm getting another set of 15s.
But I guess thats a different kind of sucky ride... one that was bestowed upon myself by choice in the name of powersliding through corners at will
or in the event it actually balances, just blowing through corners without slowing down, and is a result of 500 lb springs.
But yeah... its because the suspension is stiff, your shocks may suck and you have no tire to cushion the road.

thanks guys. i was wondering about aftermarket shocks, might try those. i know my tire size doesnt help. why would an air strut set-up be worst? http://www.airride.com/productinfo/airstrut.asp ???

A bit too rough for you? I guess thats what happens when you run 500 LB/in springs. Grassroots motorsports ran their STS preped Si with 550 front and 900 Rear..... Said it handled great, but was almost intolerable to drive on the street. they ended up droping the rear to 550 and the front to 425. said it was much easier on the back.

the ride quality might be ok, but all the force of bumps is placed on the air in the cylinders/bags/rods. Sometimes air isn't the best cushion. Some people love their air ride, but air ride does not have the best handling either.
Dude, wait until i have those JICs and bushings in! I think i am gonna have to wear a cup to save my *****!! But you are at 9/10 and my box says 8/9 so i have lower spring rates.
