question about handling...

yesterday i went to honda dealer and drove up and started to look at an s2k brand new just got on the lot they came out and are like lets go for a drive lol. so(i only drove stick once b4 when my friend was drunk and i had toi drive him home i know basics but dont have experience anyways im like sure... at first it grumbled at me so then i just let go of clutch and floored it and then into 2nd and 3rd then 4th hehehe. going very fast didnt even look at MPH just tach. anyways my point is when i touched the steering wheel in any direction it was like turning immedaitely and was very stiff etc but the most impressing thing was how it turned the car asap and not delayed as my car feels what is causing this??

is it the suspension
how the steering wheel is positioned
or the ratio used to turn the wheel?
i would love my vic to be as stiff and badass feeling but i think my next best bet is to just save up and buy an s2k or my dream car elise..

The S2000 is a well balanced car b/c it's rwd drive, the weight distribution is more even thoughout the car. Our civics are fwd and weight more in the front causing some understeer. My I had the same feeling when I traded my 240SX for my civic. you can tune the suspension by playing with the spring rates. My car feels more neutral now that I have installed Coilovers that are 336 Fr and 448 R. You can check out the Suspension tuning 101 thread it's got some good info...

lol. i was planing on getting tein basic or tein SS to firm it up a bit but yeah thats what i was figuring was the RWD... first tme driving stick w/o being forced to it didnt die on me.... which i was amazed ...only thing i ****ed up was when i went to stop and was idling in N and went to to into first it woudlnt go but i realized i didnt ahve clutch all the way.. then going back up a hill to dealership i had it in first and floored it and forgot and it redlined:-( but i was like **** when it stopped going fast and it started bogging down but i then shifted into 2nd and it was ok. idk my next car mos def gonna eb a stick even tho im lazy and at nights i like to daze off i'd much rather have a stick their not as hard as i thought plus theirs alot more "tricks" when driving a stick. btw are clutches diff in diff cars i loved how it grabbed when i floored it..(i didnt know proper technique and when i went slow it bogged down kinda so i just basically let up on clutch really fast as my other foot was going to the ground lol. this caused very fast acceleration and made me have to shift really fast.lol.

IT takes time for me to find these threads some times...

The S2000 is a wonderfull car, and is arguably the best handling stock car sold in the us Today. However, this does not mean that you cant make your civic every bit a handling monster.

First off to dispell a few things here..... the responsivness of the chassis is not because it is RWD. Its also not because of the Spring rate.

What it is...... Shock valving, chassis rigidity and the power steering rack (Mostly Shock valving).

Shocks do 2 major jobs. 1 they control the springs so that they dont bounce and 2 they control the speed in which weight is transfered between tires durring cornering. The higher the valving the quicker weight will be transfered = quicker responsiveness. Does this mean you want to get the Highest valved shocks you can???? Nope. There is a point where weight will get transfered too quickly and lead to handling problems. So, I'd suggest a nice set of Koni Yellows, they are a good performance shock that will greatly improve the responsiveness and handling of even a stock sprung car.

Chassis rigidity....... simply put, the more flexable the chassis, the longer it will take the car to react to your steering imputs. So get as many chassis reinforcements you can afford. (Front strut bar, Front Subframe, rear upper tie bar, Roll cage?, what ever....

Power steering rack....... this one you cant really do much about. even if you disconnect the power, you still have to deal with the same gear ratio in the rack. so your S.O.L. here unless you can find a power rack that has better gearing.

also, rijowysock. Lose the 18's, their extra weight and "Flywheel effect" are going to slow down your cars responsiveness too. slap a light 15 on there and you will difinitly feel an improvemt in your cars handling and reponsivness. Assuming you put a good tire on there too.

i saw the Neuspeed stuff for sale which of their porducts would give e the stiffer steering.
im getting B&G in dec so im looking at what id need for better handling...i know teir upper front bar is badass but whatabout x-brace??? where does that connect and rear lower? worth it and what is this i hear about tie bars and all that jazz?

They are all easy bolt ons. There are 4 bolts under the front of the car for the X brace. It won't take that long. The rear should be held on by the control arm bolts, but I am not sure. I think the neuspeed rear tie requires you to drill.
The rear tie bar isn't a performance part. It is to brace the chassis when you upgrade your sway bar. The X brace just help stiffen up the front end, may help with wheel hop, but also helps brace the chassis.
