Post EP3 Owners help Coilover question

My friend is looking into buying new full coilovers for his ep3, he is considering tein, kw, and the new mugen coils that came out. Anyone know if the mugen ones are full coilovers not much info on them. Any other coils that are better? Which would be the best choice, Price doesn't really matter.

Totally depends on what he wants from his suspension. that will determin what set up is best for him.

Some auto-x every now and then but he just wants a great ride quality with about little to no gap appereance. Just something that rides great and can handle some hard turns everynow and then .

Then just about any suspension will work. I'd go with what ever is cheepist. Probably Tein SS, or KW's type II.

Depends entirly on your intended application. So, while the JIC suspension is a good suspension, it is not nessisaily the best. Like for me, for instance. to me the Jic is not an option because of my needs. I autocross and the Jic suspension dosn't have enough options for me to tune my suspension to the fullest (The current Version availible for our cars is only single adjustible). So personally the KW type III is the better choice, because it is adjustible in both Bump and Rebound, allowing me to tune my suspension to meet my needs. Most people would never Know how to or want to put the effort in to tuning the suspension to this level, so the KW type III's would clearly not be the best choice for them.

See, The best suspension for you depends entirly on your intended application.

true on that but i also due auto-x, and drag, and have auto-x with a car on jic's 2k2 vic, and it was just awsome! on my 4dr i got stock shocks with ebiach sports and its not to shabby... rsx rear sway, nuespeed upperstrut brace. but it is totaly up to the person that is getting them. but when i do go full coil over i will be useing jic's, like i said just think there the best IMO.

from what i've experienced with the JICs, they are truly amazing. i think they are the best full coilover IMO too. but zzyzx is right, it totally depends on your intended application

Tein SS' do not fill the entire wheel gap when dropped at it's lowest.

Now I don't wanna talk trash about KW, because I have them, and for a year they've been great, but I just talked to one guy who's rear shock blew, and I know another guy who's front blew after about a year... I just put on my KW Upper bearing mounts (which look great, and feel great) and my front passenger's side is making a huge "whoooshing" sound going over bumps... How can you tell if a damper is blown? Maybe something's loose... gotta get in and make sure everything is tight in there... but it makes me worry. But they've been nice so far, actually they feel great, I'm dreading if my frount passenger's shock is blow, I'll have to go back to stock

How long are coilovers supposed to last given daily driving conditions? I mean, shouldn't they last like 5-10 years???

What do the upper mounts look like? Does the top of the shock just slide into the mount? Make sure everything is tight. You can tell it is blown if there is oil leaking out of it. It should not be blown if it was made right. KW says they are supposed to last, then they should last, not give out. You should be able to race on them and still be fine.

The upper bearing mount replaces the stock upper bearing mount... basically it just sits on top of the spring, and the damper goes through it. Probably something is loose, I didn't see any oil per se... as I've heard other people describe blown shocks as... But I had greased the stock upper bearing mount, and had so much grease and crud in there, would have no idea whether anything leaked out or not... plus, where would the oil be coming from, just where the damper goes into the strut right? wouldn't that just leak out onto the ground and be gone by the time you check?

And are dampers supposed to "rebound" i.e. if I push it in, it should come back out on it's own right? I mean, I basically have to take the strut apart again, so if I have it out, any way to check if it's doing it's dampening job? Nice to see you again Robb ^^
