Fixed X-Brace creak!

For those of you who install the Neuspeed X-Brace (its WELL worth it!) - you may have a slight fitment problem like me. Everything has been working fine, until the past month or so. I kept hearing a creaking sound upon accelleration, nothing else. Well today I finally had the chance to pull the x-brace off and see what the heck was going on.

On the passengers rear side (ie where the x-brace mounts to the subframe), the little triangular re-enforcing piece was slightly too big. I had to grind off a small portion of the corner for it not to rub - I believe that was causing the problem!

Well, its a combination of things. The upper strut bar fixed the under steer tremendously. The beefed up front and rear progress sway bars helped take care of some of the body roll. Now the X-brace helps clean up more of the flexing down in front, which (when I get my suspension complete, coilovers, energy suspension bushings) should completely eliminate the slop that Honda designed into our cars (ie it should drive like a freakin' sports car!). Its on its way, right now. But to be where I need it to be it needs to be finished - which may include tuning of either the coilover dampers and sway bar endlinks.

Put it this way - with just those suspension upgrades (front/rear sway bar, upper strut bar both front and rear, and X-brace) - I can hold my own in most turns doing 60! That's just the point when the tires start to cry, but they suck anyhow. When I get tires, coilovers, and other things to finish the suspension off - it should even be able to handle that same corner going faster!

Take a look at this -

http://www.neuspeed.com/data/installs/45.20.68.pdf

Look at photo #6. See that little triangle piece? All four coners have one. The one that is near the passenger side of the car, closest to the rear (supporting the subframe) is the one which I ground a small chunk out of due to the fact that it was rubbing on the subframe.

It really had nothing to do with the HP header fitting. The only other thing I did was put pipe clamps on the exhaust hangers because the damn down pipe would rattle on the X piece. That fixed it like a charm!

instead of grinding down the x-brace, how about putting spacers with longer bolts or grinding the hp racing header?
