Question parking on a hill?

I'm thinking of moving to a new apartment. The only problem is that it's on a decent sized hill on a one-way street that goes downhill. I'm concerned about the long-term wear on the parking brake. Is this something that I should be worried about?

To a lesser extent I'm a little concerned about parallel parking on the left side (no parking on the right). So I'd be having to reverse back up the hill and park on the left. Seems totally backwards.

Any help?

If you have a manual transmission and are parking downhill, put your car in reverse gear after you turn the ignition off. This will give you some insurance in case the parking brake goes out.

If you're parking uphill, place it in one of the forward gears (I usually use 2nd).

EDIT: My bad, I just read your sig (CVT transmission). Just make sure your parking brake is engaged nice and tight. Also try parking behind somebody else, in case your brakes go out you'll hit them instead of flying into someone's house.

Use the curb to your advantage. Park on the curb and turn your wheels towards it. Use the parking brake and you should be fine. If the parking brake does give out, the curb will help act as a back up, by keeping the car from rolling too far.

If I keep parking on a hill, will that shorten the life of my parking brake? I guess I should be getting that brake checked out when I go in for oil changes.

using the parking brake wont 'wear-out' the brakes at all...applying the parking brake will also keep the rear brakes adjusted...

you should apply the brake before shifting into park

Kinda OT, but I think it's funny seeing some cars with their wheels turned the wrong way when facing upward that is... expecting the rear wheels to hit the curb instead of the front. Hehehe.
