I upgraded my stock wheels to 17s with 215/40........my car swerves on the right or left at certain times, nothing major but i was wondering if this would ruin my tires?? - does this mean i need alignment????????

no... thats cuz your tires are lower profile and wider. They follow thew road a lot more than the old ones. I'm guessing this happens more on worn pavement, and you have to just put the car in the grooves and follow them. If you get outside them, then the car will try to pull back into them.... that's what you're feeling. If you're on new pavement and the car just drifts one way or the other, then you might need an alignment, but that doesn't sound like what this is.

Yea i just recently got some ne 17's put on and I have the same thing happening. The tires are trying to follow the grooves in the road, especially at higher speeds.
The question I have is: The car rides real well and doesnt rattle as much below 80 mph. If i exceed 80, the whole sterring column and rest of the car just start to shake seriously. Is this something i can correct? or is it just the nature of the tires?

what gagu said might be it or you need hub rings. i had my rims balance three time and the third time was finally balanced right, but my steering wheel was still shaking, so i finally bought hub rings for my car and now there is no more shaking.

9 times out of 10 you will not need an alignment after installing new rims, alot of people think you do but you do not. The only reason I could see getting an alignment is if the car had a lot of miles on it and there was some uneven tread wear on the old tires. Always make sure you get the hub rings with new wheels too, that will help in reducing the "shaking" that you are feeling. A good idea before installing the wheels is to count the number of wheel weights on each rim and write it down, sometimes the stick on weights may fly off and then will cause some shaking, and if you have everything else on (hub rings, lugs tightened, air pressure checked, etc.) and it still shakes of vibrates then you will know if some of your weights are missing.

thanx boiler - i think my problem is exactly what u explained - the car swerves only on groved roads and not on good roads - i have not had any problems with my car upto 90mph - havent gone beyod that as yet!!!
i have to do a 30000 service on my car anyway and i already ahve 26000 so i think when they do my 30000 theyll do the alignment

Okay im pretty sure the wheels are balanced and everything, i know i dont need an alignment because im constantly fideling with the radio and i never have my hands on the wheel. Most of the time its like find the good part of the song, and the car just drives straight.

Anyways you say some hub rings should help fix that, well i know that i dont have any, so what size of a ring should i get and does anyone know of a good place to pick them up?????
