I don't understand the sizing for tires, but if 50 is the same size as the stock, and the rim is 16" instead of the stock 15", then won't the whole wheel be bigger?
I believe he meant that the 205/50-16's you were talking about were the same overall diameter as stock size.
Go w-a-a-a-a-y up toward the top right corner of this forum page to the "tire calc" link. When you get there, put in your stock tire size vs. the 205/50-16 (actually, you can see that it is one of the recommended "plus" sizes listed there). You can see that it is a pretty good match, with not much speedometer error. (That shorter sidewall on the 16" tire makes up for the larger 16" diameter wheel, but the overall diameter pretty much stays the same)
There should not be any rubbing with a 205 mm width -- read the other thread going right now about all the people that are running 215's with no problems.

ya one misconception is bigger the wheel = bigger tires = rubbing.
you have to remember when you get bigger wheels, you get thinner/low profile sidewalls to make up for the bigger wheels. as bigdaddy said, you want to look for the OVERALL tire diameter..(n ya width as well)
