I am probably getting some new cross-drilled rotors for the front, but anyone have ideas for the brake drums? I'd like to spray
them with a rust protectant, any ideas? I want to keep the color of the brake drums black, don't think I would like the look
of them painted. Also, I'd like to remove the rust that's already there too.

Just sand off the surface rust on the Brake Drums and spray them with Black High Temp Engine paint. It will keep the surface rust from re-appearing. I see you live here in the Bay area, I live close to the beach and I'm constantly keeping surface rust at bay on all my cars. Also if you paint the drums on the car make sure you tape up the Studs so the lug nuts go back on without paint clogging up the threads.

That's the exact same thing that I did, but I didn't bother removing the rust since I didn't have much. The rust hasn't shown thru yet. [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

Yeah, what he said. Basically jack up the car. Take off the wheels. Use some WD-40 and a rag (or wire brush for severe rust) to clean off the rusted areas. Then mask off what you don't want painted (lug nuts and surrounding area). Then paint it with a high temperature paint. I'm not sure if you want to paint the mounting surface? If you do, then make sure to use a very even coat. You don't want the mounting surface to be uneven or the wheels will wobble and you'll get vibration. To get an even coat you may want to disengage the e-brake (remembering to put blocks under the front wheels) and turn the back wheel hubs while painting. This will give you a nice even surface. Oh yeah, one more thing I didn't mention. After using the WD-40 make sure that you clean off the drum with some sort of de-greaser. If you don't, then the paint won't stick.
