What does this mean? (manufacturing question)
I was looking through rims, I found this listed as the way the rims were made...
"weight optimized by FEM analysis counter pressure casting"
What does this mean?
Also, I've heard rims being called "soft", what does that usually mean?

dunno what FEM is, but I'm guessing it is something similar to FEA, or Finite Element Analysis. You make an engineering model on the computer, tell the computer what kind of forces will be acting on the wheel, what the wheel is made of, manufacturing technique, bla bla bla, then the computer will graphically display where the stresses in the wheel are. Then the designer might add material to high stress areas and reduce material in low stress areas.
That's my guess.
That's my guess.

OK... that was my guess too, I know what FEA is, but couldn't figure out what the M was... My guess could be Finite Element Modeling, or Finite Element Manufacturing.
