well at my 15k checkup and tune up, the dealer told me I only have 1mm left in my pads (front), and that I should resurface my rotors.

my mileage is at 16,500 or so miles.

when did u guys usually replace ur pads? or resurface ur rotors?

I dont think I put any grooves into my rotors yet, when I get my torque wrench I'm going to take out the wheels and check it out for myself.

last checkup at 8,700 or so miles the dealer told me I have 3.5mm left.. I dont see how I use 2.5mm just like that...

I was thinking I'll just get those aem/nissin pads for simplicity sake. I looked into other brands but they cost more and all.

if I really have to resurface my rotors I might as well get new ones.

Wow, that is weird! I have 27,500 on my car right now, had it a lil over a year and the dealer said I still hd a decent amount on the pads...I have heard horror stories from peeps on here about our braking system, so the best bet is scrape some money together and get aftermarket brakes w/ performance pads...

Man - are you using your brakes a lot? Because 3.5mm at only 8700 miles is pretty worn. Anyways, if there really is only 1 mm left on the pad, replace it ASAP! Unless you have an aftermarket brake kit with big rotors and calipers, I would suggest sticking with the OEM Honda brake pads (they work very well for stock calipers/rotors).

Resurfacing your rotors will probably save you about $40 per rotor vs. buying new ones.

Performance pads feature softer material that brake a bit better, but they also wear out faster. If Cap is down to 1mm of pads at only 16,500 miles, he'd be replacing them even faster (and spending a lot more $$) if he switched to aftermarket brake pads.

hey well since u are going to have to do all that then u might as well buy aftermarket rotors and brake pads. I say u get the cross-drilled/slotted rotors(brembo) and some Aem/Nissin Brake pads. it is only like 160 bucks for all taht but they will last u awhile and they work great.

hmm. I dont think I ride the brake that much. I really really dont understand how it die like that. I brake like everyone else. or so I think. and no one ever commented on me riding my brakes or anything.

I'm going to change my driving habit I guess. I guess I downshift to brake too much. and when I do that i do use the brake.

I guess I can't really do anything till I get my new torque wrench.. to check out the surface of the rotor and see if it needs to be be resurfaced.

IMO, and from countless others.. cross drill, slot, etc. is just for show.

brembo blanks runs for like 28 each without shipping. and they work just fine. (probably 78 shipped for a pair)

I dont know what I'm going to do. the dealer recommends me to resurface it, but that'll shave down the rotor eventually... I'd rather get new ones then.. they may also be suggesting it just cuz its better to have a smooth rotor working with new pads, so it wont wear out the brake pads as fast.

I'll take some pics when I get the wheels off. maybe u guys can help me decide.

haha. I just realized. replace ur pads. brake pads. not the other one.. *cough*

CapYoda, probably you forgot one main rule "Do not believe a single dealer's word."

Try to check your brakes at Midas/Mineke/Monroe - they don't charge anything for this as I know. Check them at independent mechanic. Then act accordingly.

By the way, if the dealer insists that they have to change brake pads/resurface rotors, tell them that they'll have to do it for free under the warranty because worn out brakes at 16k miles is a nonsense.

One more thing, as the manual says, if you hear a "noise" when applying brakes then it's time to replace brake pads.

yeah I know. I dont hear anything, nor does the steering wheel vibrate when I brake... so the rotors are still okay.

course if I wait till the time that the steering wheel vibrate then my pads are long gone...

I duno, I still haven't got my wrench... I want to put the wheel back with the proper torque setting...

I suppose I can take it to pepboys and ask them to take a quick look.

I haven't found a local mechanic store that is trusthworthy... maybe I should look around.

man, I just got my front brake pads replaced and my car is only at 12,000 miles. Just for the record, I don't drive like a grandma and ride my brakes all the time. I do tend to stop pretty fast though, which may promote excess brake wear.
