Hub centric rings?????
yes I did search but still found no solid info on this....
What I want to know is..what are they?? what do they do??? Are they needed for 17 in or 18 in wheels????
what happens if you dont put it on??? aside from the rim being not perfectly balanced.....

They are little spacers that go between the aftermarket wheel and the hub to get a snug fit (because afermarket wheels are made for so many differnt cars) They are not neccessarly needed but it is a good idea. It will not hurt anything but may cause some vibration (not always) and that's about it...

IMO, they are absolutely necessary...they center the rim on the hub since many aftermarket rims are made with general specs in mind...not like car manufacturers that equip their cars with alloy wheels that are made specifically for that car...
