Curbed a rim, repaired it too! :)
Yeah, it kinda sucked. For the story on how it happened, click here: RECAP: The last "the pike" meet.
What I did was park so that the curbed part of the rim was perpendicular to the ground facing down. It's my driver's-side front wheel. It wasn't a big bump or anything, but it was noticeable when you ran your hand over the outside lip of the rim. I took a piece of aluminum and I ground down the tip to be round like the rim. Then I took a small sledge hammer and some work gloves. I used an old work glove to pad the aluminum so that I wouldn't scratch up the rim. I then just pounded away until I got the dent out. It's a 3-pound sledge and I had to bang very hard to get that bump out. I mean VERY HARD! The rims are incredibly strong.
The wheel is still scraped up from being curbed, but it's not that bad. I have a plan to sand out the damage, or possibly weld in some aluminum first and then sand it out. Then I'll paint my wheels a different color. Maybe make a polished lip on the rim too? We'll see. I need to get my paint gun first. Already have a compressor. Anyway, just felt like sharing. it is possible to get out small dents yourself. Just be patient.
