weak brakes

is it just me or did honda take the cheap way out, my friend has had his civic since july of last year, and he has already had to change his brake pads, i on the other hand have had my civic since last august, and my break pads will need to be replaced within the next 3 or 4 thousand miles, is this normal, is there a way i can prevent break pad wear, i mean a way to save my clutch when i come to a stop is just throw it in neutral, so i guess that could be one of the reasons why there going to fast, but
anyone else experience early break pad wear.

Nothing you can do really. Change your driving style maybe. Brake sooner and apply less force. Also, engine brake. Slow down by shifting down. Anticipate lights and roll to them instead of accelerating, stopping, and accelerating again.

hmmm....if u drive stick, try down shifting more. i think it helps a lot because u are using "engine braking" instead of wearing out ur brake pads. also, this is a safer technic when slowing down, cuz u will be in the proper gear if u need to accelerate. when i brought my car in for "24,000 KM" servicing, i still had "90% left on the front brake pads", and "80% left on the back brake pads". the dealer was surprised! all i told them was that i down shift all the time. hope this helps.

damn thats pretty quick. i have had my car since november of 2000 and have 29k miles on it right now and my breaks are still good. its probably ur driving habits too much slamming on the breaks maybe? is this ur first car maybe u just have to learn to try lettin up on the gas when ur about to come to a stop so the car slows down on its own. oh and i have an automatic so no downshifting for me.

NOOO i wouldnt recommend what opgforce said, sorry but brake pads are cheaper than a new cluth to be replaced, i will replace pads before cluth anyday, you can get lifetime pads now anyways,
