So every time I'm driving on the snow and hit the brake, I hear a grinding noise and my 2001 Honda Civic will not stop. The only way I can stop it is if I very very slowly push my foot into the brake. This has or ready caused me one accident because I couldn't stop on time.

So, does this issue sound familiar to anyone? People have been telling me that this is normal for all cars which I think is nonsense. Don't know how bad it is until you drive it.

I think this is related to the brakes or tires, but does this sound familiar to any one else?

What kind of pads do you have?
Does this ONLY happen in snow?


There are a few reasons:
1. You have shiitty pads
2. Your rotor needs to be resurfaced because the disc is very corse and didn't wear even.

The first reason i gave isnt accumulative... If you have race pads (ie hawk hp+) then they will grind due to their high torque race purpose.

the grinding noise has nothing to do with the tires. griding is a result of pad contact to the rotor. simple as that.

also look and feel the rotor itself. is it real corse/rough? if so, you need to get it resurfaced.

as far as actual stopping potential, your tires and tire type (for snow) is more important than the kinda brake pad you have.

Sounds like either your pads are done, or rust on the rotors.

Either way, something's going to need replacing
