I currently have 17" rims on my civic and want new 17" rims. Will my current tires work? They aren't worn out too much?

is there a way to check the specs on the rims itself? cause i bought the civic with motegi rims already on and ive been trying to find them online to see the specs but not luck:/

*idk what the rims are called, i just know they are motegi

it seems that might have to buy new tires haha
guess i'll just wait till my tread wears out.

You can take the wheel off and look on the inside of it. Check on the back of the center and on all the spokes. It could also be on the round part. Might not be for those but mine have the specs on the back of the spokes.

your tires should say something like 215/45/17 on them.

the number in the first spot, in this case 215, is the width of the tire and rim.

the number in the second spot is the height of the tire wall.

the number in the third spot is the rim size.


so in order for you to run the same tires on new rims you'll need rims that match the first and last numbers on your tire. so like my example 215/45/17, you'll need rims that are the same as the rims you have now in proportion.

The 215 is the width of the tire tread in millimeters, not the rim.

Wheel sizes are normally given in inches, like 16X6 1/2J or 17X7J
The second number is the width of the rim between the bead areas.

You can stretch a 215 tire onto rims of various widths (within reason).


You normally DO want tires and rims to be close to the same width.......unless you don't want that.

Some people want a different look.

My truck has stock wheels that are 6 or 6.5 inches wide (I can't remember ATM). I have 225mm wide tires on the rear, and 185mm wide tires on the front. All 4 wheels are still the same.
My 225 tires would probably fit on any rim width from 4 to maybe 9 inches or more.
But I went for a certain look.

It's not exactly height.
It's a ratio. Aspect ratio. Section height / section width. Expressed as a percentage.




SMH. Wheel measurements do not use the same numbers as tires here.

sorry i took so long to get back, been busy;p
alright so i removed my tires and my current rims are 17X7 +42 4X100
ive been looking at some rims and found some that are 17X7 +38.
Does the offset matter much?
