Front Lower control arm bushing

I went to my Honda dealer yesterday and he said my Front Lower control arm bushing was cracked

If I buy a set on Ebay for 50usd is it just the bushings that are cracked?

And if I do it that way will I need a press still or is it just simple to swap them

Re: Front Lower control arm bushing

I don't know what you are referring to buying, the bushings or the complete arms.

Regardless, you need a press to install them.

Re: Front Lower control arm bushing

You can get them out with a hammer, but you will need a press to get them back in. However, there are alternative measures that I would try first .. if I did not have access to a press.

Don't buy a cheap bushing, get energy suspensions ones and they will last you the life of the car.

From what the dealer said the only stated "front lower control arm bushing was cracked"

That's the only thing they said and they want to charge me 400 to replace it

Re: Front Lower control arm bushing

The dealer also told me that I had a cracked bushing... A member on here informed me that it's easier and cheaper to buy a whole new control arm (you can probably search the forum and find the post). I purchased them with the energy bushings somewhere online but it was around a year ago and I forgot which site it was. Good Luck!

Edit: It might be worth checking the suspension section

Re: Front Lower control arm bushing

^ yep, remove the control arm, (hard part is only ball joint) and pop new in. et voila! you have a spare arm to press new bushings at your leisure and a working control arm in the car. it's not much expensive and much less work.

Re: Front Lower control arm bushing

Do it yourself and change the whole control arm It is easier. I'd personally change just the bushings but I know how to remove the bushing from the arm and press in the new one. So, essentially it's up to you how big of a job you want to tackle. 400 dollars is only because they replace the whole arm and your paying a lot more for that.

Bushing should be about 40 dollars maximum and 1-2 hrs labour so around 200 bucks.

Re: Front Lower control arm bushing

here is the easiest way to change the front bushings but like every one said you will need a prress. you take a drill and drill around the rubber untill it falls apart. then the metal part on the inside will fall out. then take a hack saw cut the outer ring from the bushing just be care full not to cut into the control arm. i did it on the part where it connects to th control arm where the most metal is. then take a hammer and screw driver bend the metal til it falls out. then press the new one in. use alot of the grease they supply and it will be done. 50 bucks ebay maybe 20 bucks in renting a space at a shop to do it or paying a guy at a shop to press it in and you have them done. its way easier than you think believe me. i just redid min. i'd buy the red energy suspension ones to that way you know they are changed. =)

Re: Front Lower control arm bushing

I put awhole assembly of front left lca+bushings came in pre-installed for a 03 civic ex4dr sedan.
I suggest to have it installed at a shop. The work involved in removing & installing it is at best TEDIOUS.. I would rather have the car lifted and worked on. Its so much easier, convenient & faster if done that way.
BTW, i used ADVANCE AUTO AND their discounts/coupons & it did turn out real cheap.

Only problem I had was the center on one of the bushings corroded to the bolt, so I had to cut it out and bent the frame nut back down from being turned out on my passenger front. Other than that and pressing the old shells out, this was really a quick and simple job. I also wound up having to replace the sway bar end links cuz they fell apart when putting them back together.

A bench vise also works very well for this too if available, when tight on the bushing, it wont be in all the way, just wiggle the arm a bit and it will pop right on
