Cracked Rim..
The logical side of my brain is screaming not to buy this set of rims, while the foolish side keeps telling me to get them. I need you guys to weigh in..
I have an opportunity to buy an authentic set of SSR type-C rims, they are one of the lightest and rarest rims ever produced, 15x7 are only 8.3 pounds. The lowest price I've ever seen these sell new for is $600 a piece, someone on my local forum has there set of four listed for $250. The catch, there are a couple small cracks. One crack is in the lip, its pretty minor and I wouldn't be concerned about running with it. The other crack is a couple inches long and runs into the rim. I cannot afford to buy a replacement for that wheel, the new cost for even one rim is out of my league. That means I would need to have it welded, has anyone here welded a rim, had friends weld wheels.. opinions?

Re: Cracked Rim..
I did, no worries.
I'll either do a 5 lug conversion or buy adapters, I know someone parting out a DC5 so this would be the perfect excuse to grab it's brake set-up.

Re: Cracked Rim..
stay far away. and ssr rims are known for cracking so im not sure you want a rim like that anyway. light rims under 12 lbs you really have to know what you are buying. its a serious safety risk if you dont do your homework.

Re: Cracked Rim..
Dammit.
A friend of a friend owns a wheel repair shop, so I emailed him the pics to and his verdict is that they're scrap value. Any wheel with a crack on the inside lip is unrepairable apparently..

Re: Cracked Rim..
ive been thinking about going back to honda rims. i hate how ugly the older HX 14s look but they are only around 12 lbs and you know they are made to last. idk, most of the other oem rims are too heavy 15-16 lbs or more. i like my konigs but you can tell they are cheap and they never balance.

Re: Cracked Rim..
I'm having a hard time deciding what to do about rims, I'm not feeling the colour of my current set, bronze against a silver car. I was thinking about re-finishing them in a dark grey or silver colour, I'm actually really enjoying how well my OEM rims match the car right now..

Re: Cracked Rim..
I wouldnt do a lug swap just to rock a different set of wheels... thats like buying a new house that doesnt fit in yours, just so you can install a weird size window that you got a good deal on.

Re: Cracked Rim..
I've been planning on either doing a full 5 lug swap or mounting RSX/s2000 calipers with re-drilled rotors for awhile, I've just haven't had enough motivation to do it yet.
Thats a very strange analogy Triz..

i'd say more like noking out a wall in your house for the window, but yours sounds more convincing and funny. =D

here is also my .02
save ur $$$ from the 5 lug conversion and DC5 brake upgrade. those dont offer too much of a performance gain compared to stock.
instead, just buy some nice light weight rims, and get a wilwood brake kit.
4 piston block calipers, 12" (or 11") ultra light weight rotor... all for a shy over 400.
plus it has the option for u to add a SS lines for $35.

Re: Cracked Rim..
Thats a pretty sweet big brake set-up for $475, add the stainless steel lines and you could out stop just about anyone.
What I might do is just get the rsx-s calipers, brackets and rotors; have the rotors re-drilled to 4 lug; add stainless steel lines and you have still have a killer brake set-up on the cheap with all stock parts.
I'm bidding on an rsx-s brake booster and master cylinder on ebay right now as well, its currently at .99 cents with only a few hours left lol.
