How to paint DRUM BRAKES?
How to paint DRUM BRAKES?
Hey guys i want to paint the rear drum brakes of my 2001 honda civic. I know some people leave them on the axle and just paint but i want to remove the entire drum brake off and sand it down and paint. I have being looking at threads and i see when you remove the bolts you take the first piece of the drum. How can i just take the entire drum off for paint?
Thank you
Thank you

Re: How to paint DRUM BRAKES?
basically you:
1. take off rims
2. take 2 bolts (i forgot the size, search the forum) and insert them to push the drum plate out.
from there you want to degrease the drum and sand it down with 300-400grit or steel wool.
then primer it with some automotive primer, then spray it with caliper paint (ur autozone, kregan, napa...etc has it)
remember its important to clean it, sand it, primer, then paint or else it'll start chipping within a few months.

Re: How to paint DRUM BRAKES?
I wouldnt bother taking it off. True you will get better results. I painted my drums black back in may and they still look great, no chipping or anything. Buy the Dulicolor caliper paint from your local auto store and take the time to clean it and paint it well.

Re: How to paint DRUM BRAKES?
don't make the mistake I made and drive the car before the paint is completely dry - you'll end up with paint splatters on the inside of your rims which are hard to clean off
Re: How to paint DRUM BRAKES?
1. Go to junkyard and get rear trailing arms from an Si or Integra from your generation
2. Bolt them on your car
3. Paint your nice pretty new rear disc brakes! Plus you'll stop much better
