Re: brake noise (metal on metal)
hawk pads are probably the best pads (for daily street usage) you can buy for your civic.
ive tried:
HAWK HPS
HAWK HP+
Axis metal masters
EBC green stuff
and best biting pads i found are the Hawk HP+ but they are just too loud for daily use and they eat up ur rotors pretty fast, but damn, they stopp like no other. stopping power felt better than my friends 08 Audi A3.
but HAWK HPS (HP-Street) have almost as good as a bite as teh HP+, but the are very very quiet, smooth, low dust, and dont need time to warm up (like the HP+). highly recomended.

Re: brake noise (metal on metal)
yeah go with hps (street). its good for most daily driving. if you race or track the car alot, go with the +
Re: brake noise (metal on metal)
Not sure why a master tech would only recommend pads espcially when the compaint was metal on metal. Which 99% of the time is the backing plate grinding into the rotor. Thats horrible advise you should always get new rotors or atleast if you cant afford mic your current rotors and you have enough life left get them machined.
