Help with rear disk conversion?

Hi guys i have been searching around the site on upgrading my brakes because i have begun tracking my car. I was looking at the k-sport front big brake kit and have decided on that. I also was thinking of getting the big brake kit for the rear just for the bling effect as i show my car aswell. Either way im not looking to get blasted saying its a waste of money as i know it wont really help the braking its more for the bling effect. Anyways to my question, they make a ksport big brake kit for the rear of an ep3 and i was wondering if this would would on our cars. I know people around swap the rear disc conversion from an ep3 so im wondering what you would have to do to make a big brake kit designed for an ep3 to fit an em2. I have a 04 coupe ex and was wondering if anyone knows what would happen and what mods would have to be done. Thanks in advance for any help and i have searched and not found any related answers so dont tell me to search.

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

i'd assume you'd need larger wheels. i mean really, isn't a big brake kit only larger calipers and rotors?

^^
What he said above but the specific parts you need are the knuckles off the ep3. In the image below its the two parts to the right of the photo with the 4 studs. You also need the ep3 ebrake cables or the rsx ebrake cables. Also you'll need to find out if the ksport big brake kit for the ep3's rear is 4 lug or 5 lug. Then buy the appropriate knuckle for the kit. They might make both 4 or 5 or just one of them. If they don't make a 4 you'll have a problem with only 4 in the front and 5 in the rear.

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

thakns for the help guys, so your saying if i just buy the knuckes thats all i need? I could be wrong but arent ep3's only 4 bolt? im assuming they are all 4 bolts so technically if i get the knuckles off the ep3 then they will bolt right up and then the big brake kit can just bolt up to that. Also with big brake kits in the rear you lose the e-brake i guess because it doesnt work with the cable, so im going to convert to a hydraulic hand brake they make, can you say civic drifiting lol.

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

once youve completed the conversion, any EP3 brake kit will fit the setup.

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

i know you want to do the big brake conversion for the show aspect, however, i'd reconsider it if you're serious about tracking your car.

with the BBK, you'll have to buy bigger rims, which too big of a rim is not good for track use. plus, you'll be spending a lot more money replacing the rotors/pads off a BBK. if it were me, i'd just do the EP3 rear disc conversion and be done with it.

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

if youre serious about tracking the car, you cant stop with rear discs. slowing down from 80 to 20 a few times consecutively renders the brake pedal pretty much useless in my car, ive got front and rear power slots and axxiss ultimates pads. what you really need is an effective front brake upgrade.

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

some ep3's are 4 bolt and some are 5 bolt I believe the 01's have a 4 bolt or you can grab them off a Canadian Acura EL thats what I did it's really easy to do the swap I do suggest a friend cause it really helps when you are bleeding the brakes. Also you might want to watch out for the Hydraulic hand brake they are little bit different than your regular hand brake and have a slight problem. They don't have click stops on them to hold them in place so you can't actually park you car with it.
Of course you could always just stick a brick behind your tire.LOL

Oh I would also just do a rear brake swap first live with that for about a week or two and then do the big brake kit upgrade all around. Just so you can feel how the brake bias changes just by putting on rear disc. I have tracked my car a couple of times and unless you are running over 225+ hp a rear disc conversions and good set of pads is all you really need, maybe some braided brake lines for better feel. and if you putting the car on the track you are going to generate so much brake dust that no one will be able to see you big brake kit. But Please I'm not trying to discourage u or shoot down your idea. it sounds like you got a dream so live it.

Any way good luck with the project! and have fun with it!
I'm jealous I want a hydraulic handbrake

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

thanks guys i realize the bigger rims, but i have bigger rims anyways im swithcing to 18" volk gt-ns with yokohomo parada spec 2's to get some serious grip. I also just bought a front up, rear up, and rear lower strut bars. and asked for front and rear progress sway bars wtih tanabe underbracing. Oh, also i got tein flex's on my car now. I am serious about tracking the car but im not entering time attacks, i just want to drive my car like you should drive a car, even if it isnt mean to be a track terror doing all these mods will just make it a hell of a llot more fun, and i wnat my car to be completely done for the track for when i finish building up my k24 frank N/A style. Want to get this stuff out of the way, and the rear big brakes i know are for show, but i cant see them hurting my car, if anything they must be a LITTLE bit better then gosh dang drums lol lets be serious. and money isnt a factor to me (not that im rich) i just dont really have much other interests to spend my money on and i got a good paying summer job. I want to do this once since im still young (18) and be done with driving ricer cars lol so i want to do it right while i can pull it off. Thanks for all you help guys.

Re: Help with rear disk conversion?

not sure if this is true, but tongiht i also read that the brake booster from an rsx is a direct bolt on, and im only assuming it will give more power to the big brake kit then our stock?i
