Warped Rotors
Re: Warped Rotors
im using hawk pads with brembo blanks and goodridge stainless lines and i absolutely love it. never used aem pads so i cant tell you much with them, but ive heard good things about them.
my recommendation for when you get all your new brakes is to go to an empty wet parking lot and relearn how to stop. with the new pads and esp the stainless lines, your pedal is gonna be much stiffer and if youre not careful, you will lock up the tires much easier

Re: Warped Rotors
the lines are really just for pedal feel. yes the rubber ones do balloon a hair, but nothing to significant. id start with pads and go from there. buying pieces one at a time is prolly the best way to do it, as you will be able to see how each individual piece works and effects (or doesnt) your performance.
Re: Warped Rotors
i thought about just lines first cuz i can get em shipped at 80 bucks
but maybe ill get pads instead

i just got my brembo blanks today, they're going on tomorrow, i'll keep you guys updated.
Re: Warped Rotors
I don't get it, how do u get a shop to install ur choice brake pads/rotors/lines? I called 3 different shops today and all of them said that they won't install any brakes unless ordered thru the shop...wtf??? I just want to order some rotors and pads off of tirerack.com and take them to a shop to get them installed. And whats worse is that those shops that I called were all tirerack's recomended installers for brakes. i trust myself to install anything on my car except brakes...too important to mess around with myslef

brakes are one of the easiest things to install. i've been doing my own brakes since i was 16.
too many dealers/shops rip you off when wanting to do brakes. my ex g/f's mom paid over $400 because the dealer said she needed new pads, rotors, and calibers when she had a slight vibration.
just buy the hanes auto manual and take your time, and you'll find that brakes really aren't that difficult to do. i've never had a problem.

Re: Warped Rotors
rotors on and they feel great. No more vibration and the brake pedal feels good. car stops pretty well now, although i haven't really "slammed" on them yet (box said 100-150miles break in).

Re: Warped Rotors
went out today, just messing around with a friend, doing about 105mph, started to come into some traffic so i hit the brakes lightly and my speed dropped to 80mph almost instantly. I was truly amazed how fast i was reducing speed, amazing rotor/brake combo. very satisfied.
I like my commute

Re: Warped Rotors
my brakes were put to the test tonight...they seriously just saved my car...
so school started and i commute 40 miles one way to college. i had just got out of class a 9:30pm. i usually average 80mph on the highway because i just want to get home (especially after a long day of classes.)
so anyway, i'm on the highway, doing about 80 when i see road signs saying construction ahead, right lane closed. so i begin to slow down, about 15 cars behind traffic.
shortly after traffic started to speed up, so i was looking ahead to see where the right lane ended. i look back in front of me and a car swerves out of the left lane, revealing a car stopped dead in the middle of my lane and i've got two cars to my right, so swerving is out.
i seriously thought my car was done, i slammed on the brakes and HOLY ****, my car stopped about 10 feet before the car stopped. i was doing about 60-65 and it felt like i was braking from about 40mph. the best setup i have every used, by a long shot. i'm going to make sure i've got this set up on every car i own from here on out.
