Steering is loose? *SEARCHED* couldn't find an answer
Steering is loose? *SEARCHED* couldn't find an answer
I was on stock tires at 35000 miles. Went to have a balance and rotate at the dealership
Found out that the fronts were done for, had them rotated to the back. Back was drifting left and right while driving.
Went to NTB had some nice yokohamas put on the back. Stock back tires went to the front. Front was hard to controll - steering was loose and kinda scary.
Went back to NTB. Had the fronts replaced with the same yokohamas. Problem was about 70% fixed. Not scary driving.
Steering is still loose - enough to be noticable. Some drifting left and right at highway speeds. It's not like it was when the car was new and I'm on 4 brand new tires - balanced and all.
Time for an alignment? tie ends loose? I need some help here.
Car is TOTALLY stock.

could be a bunch of things. alignment maybe, bad balacing on the tires...you have to have those balanced too if theyre new. and maybe (doubt it) the people put ur tires on backwards.....lol...no really though. make sure the balance on all four of those tires is perfect. no 0.2 or anything...perfect 0's. and maybe if all else fails it is time for an alignment. i rmemeber i rotated my tires once and they were almost new...and when i put them back on my car drifted side to side liek crazy liek if i needed a deadly alignment, but then it was jus because i switchd the lefts with the rights...the usual wear had adjusted the tread to a certain angle..so when i switched them the angle was backwards and it made it all outta wack. when u rotate, its best to just put the fronts in the backs n backs in the front and dont switch em around...

All 4 tires on the car right now are brand new yokohama as430's- installed and balanced at the same NTB.
Should I take it back to my local dealership for a rebalance and rotate? or is it time for an alignment? - I haven't had one yet. Car is a 2004 and I'm the only owner. I'm not getting any major vibration - maybe a tad bit more than usual but nothing uncommon or really noticable.
I had no problems untill the first rotate when they put the bad stock fronts on the back. They didnt' have any traction when they were on the front but the thing didn't drift on me like it's doing now.
I've got plenty of grip with the new tires - ride is better, less road noise. I've got to deal with the fact that the car will drift when I"m making minor corrections on the highway. I don't notice it much on city roads but I know it's there as well.
Passing 18 wheelers is what really sucks. That push of air from either passing or being passed will throw me off of a straight line and my minor correction will turn into a major one and it makes the car kind of scary to handle.
I used to never have any issue keeping the car straight.

if your wheel is straight and the car is drifting to right or left with brand new tires on you need an alignment
Re: Steering is loose? *SEARCHED* couldn't find an answer
That's what I needed to know. Thank you.
I'm staying with my gf's family out in the middle of nowhere with plenty of long straight country backroad. I'll do a test tomorrow to make sure that the wheel is 100% straight and that I'm not doing something subconsciously that's causing the problem.
If its the car and not me then I'll set up an alignment at my dealership when we get back.
Thanks for your help.

yup, you need an alignment. it's wise to do it with 4 new tires on the car. otherwise, they'll have a very short life span.
